Is one any better than the other in the eyes of a CO? I know a joint sponsor allows me to combine my income with the other sponsor, so maybe the increased income helps? I have the chance to either keep working while living with my parents and file using my stepfather's income as a joint sponsor, or move out and use him as a co-sponsor. I would prefer to move, I'm only staying with them because I made a cross-country move however if a joint sponsor looks better for some reason then I could stay.

Opinions, please and thank-you!

I realize I mixed up what co and joint sponsors are up there...I just wanted to know (if even possible for k-1) that one somehow looks better than the other if allowed. The other sponsor already makes about 10-11,000USD above the 125% limit as is so we are not short in that sense.

As far as I know, for K1 Visas, they don't accept co-sponsors. At least that's what happened to fiancé, and now husband. The CO, refused to take any other persons income other than mine. They said, it is the fiancé's responsibility to support their future spouse and not anybody else. Therefore, providing a co-sponsor is useless because they will not even look at it. Hope this helps. Good Luck!!

You do not have information filled in your timeline or profile, so it is hard for anyone to give specific more accurate answers. Each consulate is different. Some accept co-sponsors, and some do not. A joint sponsor can be used with the I-864 later for AOS. With the I-864, there is also the possibility of combining income with a household member and using an I-864A.

Back to the K-1 and the I-134 though. If your consulate allows co-sponsors, you will need one that meets the requirement all on their own for their own household size plus the beneficiary. There is no combing of incomes with the I-134. Unless going through London(which only needs 1 I-134 from a single qualifying sponsor),the USC petitioner fills out an I-134 and provides their supporting documentation, and the co-sponsor fills out their own separate I-134 and provides their supporting documentation.

No timeline because nothing has been done yet, I'm waiting til after the coming tax filing to do anything. For now just gathering information (hence me not knowing a lot). I know the embassy he would interview at accepts co-sponsors, Cairo, and rarely rejects them if they are well over the required level.

Good to know a joint is only for AOS. :) So I'll be having a co-sponsor, not joint for the K1.

Ha, my post was supposed to say combining, not combing, but you got the idea anyway tongue.png

Why are you waiting for taxes to be filed before filing the I-129F petition? The financials are not sent with the petition. They won't be needed until months later for the K-1 interview.

Using a co-sponsor with the K-1 depends a lot with what country as each embassy has different rules. What country is your fiancée in that you are petitioning? And also I don't see the value of waiting either.

There is nothing disallowing a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa. Whether a co-sponsor is allowed is more so tied to which embassy in what country.

I guess as other people are saying, it depends on which country your fiance is coming from. My fiancé, now husband, on the other hand, went to the US Embassy in Manila. We weren't denied for the K1, however, my husband received the white slip which just gave us time to resubmit our affidavit of support. The slip just said I had insufficient income and I would need to resubmit the proper amount. Therefore, after working more hours at my job enough to satisfy the 125% required poverty level, we resubmitted my affidavit of support again. Finally, we got approved!! Just a little tip, if after the interview, they kept your fiancé's passport, take that as a good sign. They probably just need additional documents or requirements. But if they return it to him/her after the interview, chances are they got denied. But that's just me. Every CO is indeed different.
