I have some troubles here. I'm from Perú and i'm in the middle of the process of a K1 VISA.
The thing is that i have 3 passports: my first passport was issued aproximately in 1988, my second passport in 1996 and the third one in 2011. The problem in that i have had only one tourist visa and it was in my first passport and is LOST! was lost long time ago.
I went to the Public and National Records here and they don't have any records before 1994. I went to Migration and they answered me the same.
What can i do if there is no way i can find that old passport number? That's the only thing i'm asking for and none of those places, that are supposed to have everything, don't have them.

Will that be a problem for my K1 VISA?cray5ol.gif

Why do you need your old passports?

Posted

Your old passports will be expired and aren't much use to you, anyway. You'll need a current passport thats valid for them to put the K1 visa in, but that should be it.

Is there a reason the embassy may want to see your old passports?

What matters now is that the current pasport that you have , the issued to you in 2011, that passport should have the NIOMETRIC feature on it.

Even if you had your old passport and it was still valid, that passport would be irrelevant because as per the new immigration laws, the US will only issue visas to the new generation pasports that have the BIOMETRIC FEATURE

Msian+passport+2.jpg

The passport on the LEFt is the new one,, look at the small sign at the bottom.. so in order for you to get a visa, your passport should have that symbol for you to know that its the newer technological passport

I've seen in old posts that they ask for your old American Visas and in my old passport i was having my tourist visa. I was thinking it could be important for them to see that even though i know they have it in their system.

Thank you so much for both answers! i appreciate it.

If you had a B1/B2 visa in your first passport, it will be long expired anyway. Nobody expects you to hold on to your old expired passports, unless you still have valid visas in them. I used to have a B1/B2 in my old passport, issued in 1998 and expired in 2008, nobody at the consulate ever asked for that. I only answered "yes" to the question in the form (have you ever been issued a US visa, or something like that).

They don't actually want to see the visa, they just want to know if you've ever been issued one and when. You would answer yes to that question and give the date. They aren't going to request the physical copy of the expired visa.

Could you please provide a link to a government website that says that a passport has to have this feature in order to have a US visa issued to it? My fiance's Peruvian passport is from 2010 and it doesn't have this. I'm wondering if Peru even has this technology yet or if he should be trying to get a new passport before his interview. But this is the first post i've ever seen about this topic and everything I can find on google referencing it says that only countries in the visa waiver program were mandated to begin using it and that it's only necessary if you are entering through the Visa Waiver Program... which would mean that it does not apply to a K1 visa holder.

Thanks

I've not heard of this 'provide proof of former usa visas'

as

DoS, in the IV Unit, has a full record of everything ever issued to you.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thank you :) i feel better now. Anyway there's a link on the US embassy that ask for you to send them an email if you lost a passport with a visa and it doesn't matter if it's an expired visa. I already sent it.

It is hard to remember when that visa was issued though ... i only have the dates when i travel with that visa.

I also was denied a tourist visa but that was on 2006, i don't think they will make a problem for that ... i guess :S

i'm also peruvian and i don't have that sign on my passport. We don't need that so don't worry.
