Exactly as ordered by the US Appeals Court, Illinois has recognized the individual right of Americans to be armed

Illinois residents have actually been able to carry concealed since the December ruling by having a non-resident concealed carry permit from another state. Many thousands of Illinois residents already are carrying concealed handguns. Homicide in Chicago is down 37% since the court ruling, saving the lives of hundreds of young black men like Trayvon Martin.

Prior to allowing concealed carry, Chicago had the highest homocide rate in the country and the Mayor had to enlist the National Guard to curb the violence in 2012. In 2012 Chicago had 18.7 homicides per 100,000 residents

As more and more good people are issued CCW licenses we can expect further reduction in crime. The State's governor had used his "line item veto" to eliminate several sections of the state's statute in an effort to oppress the rights of Illinoisans. The legislature, today, overrode ALL his vetos and enacted the legislation as ordered.

I am not a proponent of concealing a firearm...I believe they should be worn in full view. I believe that would be a much more effective crime deterrent, We would have a more polite and courteous society. Plus I have a very nice holster and I hate having to hide it

I think I like concealed better, keeps them guessing! Plus if open carry was the law, eventually it would evolve to everyone toting hawglegs due to pisstool envy!

No it is not more effective. If it was the states would not have enacted concealed carry.

Vermont allows ANYONE to carry concealed, you do not have to be a resident. Always has. This means ANYONE can be armed. It is the reason our crime is so low. Open carry may be a better deterrent for the guy carrying but not for anyone else.

The knowledge that people CAN be carrying without the knowledge of WHO is carrying is the whole deterrent.
