Hi hope somebody can help with this. I am about to apply for naturalization through marriage.. We have been married for 4 years and Ive been a permanent resident for 3 years. My husband got naturalized through his parents when he was 15 or 16 years old. He renew his US passport a few months ago and he never got the old passport back. The new passport has the recently date of renewal and he doesn't remember when was the date he became a US citizen and he doesn't have a certificate of naturalization either. Please help I filled the form out and left the space in blank... what can I do?? I am sending copies of his new US passport. cover and front page. but I am very worried I can get REF because I am leaving the space in blank.

What Can I write to explain this? Should I send a cover letter explaining or what?? thankssssssssssssssss

Waiting...

Typically passports are valid for 10 years unless you are under 18 YO. So you could subtract 10 years from the current passport and give a month and year or just the year. I would include his A# on the form so they can look it up. I would NOT leave the space blank. Put in at least the year. The only issue is whether he has been a USC for the past three years, so you will need to come up with that proof. His A# will help with that. I am surprsed he did not get the old passport back. I have all of my old passports.

Good luck,

Dave

In the blank I would put "<YEAR>. See cover letter." and add an explanatory paragraph to your cover letter referencing the specific question number, explaining the situation and including any relevant information you have, including his A#. That's part of what the cover letter is for.

DON'T PANIC

Wasn't it asked on some of the other forms for the other processes? Didn't you send it with your initial petition to prove citizenship so don't you have a copy of it somewhere?

For us, the N-400 was a repeat of what we submitted already for the AOS and ROC stages, we had to do a lot of reseach for the AOS stage in particular. Had all that on my computer, so filling out the N-400 became a copy and paste operation with some minor updating. Same old questions, and the same old evidence, again, again, and again.

Viewed the N-400 as a combination of the AOS and ROC stages and wondered if the USCIS did realize with all those forms and evidence, was the only reason why they issued my girls their green cards. They wanted to see my 51 double sided for a total of 102 pages divorce papers again! Trying to forget that rotten period of my life, won't let me do that. And proof that I still am a US citizen, no wonder why my wife commented when she saw her file it was over 3 1/2" thick! No wonder why they are running out of filing cabinet space.

His parents may know.

I'm not at all a specialist, but was he naturalized the same day than his parents?

If they keep some papers maybe he can find a A number, and call uscis to have the informations.

More likely his parents know more about than him. It's just my guest.
