In a little over 2 months I will be flying to Romania. The longest leg of the flight is almost 8 hours. I smoke about a pack a day. Any tips from any of you smokers out there on how you got through a long flight?

All I can suggest is maybe lots of gum or snacks to feed the cravings? Or perhaps getting some nicotene gum just for the flight? But if you do that be careful about taking that and then smoking after you get off the plane. I'm not sure what the level is for taking too much, but you don't want to be sick after you land.

Good luck!

:)

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

I dont worry about death now. If I was interested in quitting, I wouldn't have posted the topic.

Unfortunately, death is not the only thing smokers need to worry about. Have you seen the latest anti-smoking advertisement on the television? It reminds people that death is not the only thing that can result from smoking - cutting off part of your tongue, or ending up with no voicebox and a huge hole in your neck are things that smokers may have to LIVE with. It certainly made me sit up and think a little harder about how stupid smoking is - and, yes, I am a smoker!

If you really can't go for 8 hours without a cigarette then try the gum, as suggested, or a patch. I can't think of any other way of getting through it, if you are that addicted.

Good Luck!

Our journey started in 2001 and it's still not over. It's been a rollercoaster ride all the way! Let me off - I wanna be sick!

Here’s some info from a former smoker… :P

The last flight I was on was the flight over here to the US. About 8 maybe 8½ hours flight time from Dublin, Ireland to Orlando, Florida.. throw in another few hours for check in, waiting, security.. and maybe some delays.

I smoked about 20 to maybe 30+ at times a day, depending on the day. I almost always rolled my own. I made the choice months and months in advance to smoke my last smoke before I arrived in the US and that’s what I did. If I could make it though 8 – 10 hours of just getting here then why couldn’t I stay off them? I didn’t and don’t want to die young or on a ventilator gasping for air that I’ve robbed from my own body. If I wanted to kill myself then I’d do it in a more humane way. That’s just how I thought about it at the time.

I know your not trying to quit but if it’s any help I used the Nicolette micro tabs 2mg, I got them at the airport and they took the edge off it big time while in the air and for the next few days in the US. Be careful though I ate too many of them in the air and it made me feel quite sick.

Good Luck! :D

Whenever i flew to Dublin from Chicago i would read, sleep or listen to music. I just put the smoking out of my mind. Chewing gum also helps.

October 31, 2016 I-130 sent to Chicago Lockbox

November 4, 2016 Received text case sent to Nebraska

November 10, 2016 Received Hard copy of NOA1

8 hours? You seem to be under the impression that you can light right up coming off that plane. You can't. Not for another 1-3 hours depending on how long immigration and customs take. With a little bit of "luck", your connecting flight will be so close by the time you're through that you won't have a chance to leave the airport's secure area to head outside to smoke which means that you may not be able to smoke until you arrive at your final destination. Not to scare you or anything like that, just be prepared for the possibility that you'll be unable to smoke for much more than 8 hours.

That said, it's not as bad as it may seem. I try to sleep on the plane. If there's any trouble falling asleep, Jack usually comes to the rescue.

drugs

something to knock you out. Some people swear by benadryl to put themselves out... I usually go with dramamine, becuase it takes care of any airsickness as well.

Thats the secret. I have a script for vicodent. Two of those babies washed down with a beer and I am out for most of the 14 hours it takes to get to PI.
