Not really. Most conservatives identify themselves as such. Being called a "conservative" is respectable. That is why the left has to make up derogatory terms for them to get under their skin, while no self-respecting socialist wants to be referred to as a disgusting "liberal".

There's nothing disgusting about being a liberal. Liberalism is based on the belief in progress, the autonomy of the individual and the protection of political and civil liberties. A liberal is an open and broad minded person not bound by authoritarianism and orthodoxy. When you think about it, the founding fathers were all liberals in their time. Liberalism is thus an American value. Not sure why you find American values disgusting.

This is why the the crusade of liberal America to label itself moderate is so dishonest. In order to demonstrate their own moderateness, liberals will make illusions to socialist and communists. It would be like conservatives claiming to be moderate because of Anarchists and neo-nazis. Yes, there are people more crazy that you. That doesn't make you a moderate.

RGinWA, I don't know much about your particular views, but whether or not it applies to you this line of liberal logic is prolific enough that it bears refuting. You make points in defense of Democrats and liberals and then claim to be objective because you are in fact a moderate. Then, in order to prove your own moderateness you point to communists and socialists. It's a well used line.

Here's a shocker, I voted for GW Bush in 2000, mainly because I didn't feel Gore was very Presidential. So yes, even I can make idiotic mistakes in judgment, purely in the name of being a moderate.

I have a lot in common with Democrats granted.

But the Republican's of 30 years ago, before the infection of the religious right, would be appalled at the direction of the party. It’s more about scandals than actually governing; for which they are elected to do I might add.

I can't help it if the T baggers took over the GOP. I find it commical because it will be the demise of the Grand Old Party, but they are too ignorant to see the writing on the wall.

Odd that the head of the division that overseas the tax exempt status would apologize, and said that words like Patriot, Tea party and conservative were used to flag cases for review, and that list of donors were asked for which is against the law. The Obama admin went on to say that the IRS targeted conservative groups specficly.

i took a political quiz and i came out more libertarian than gary johnson. seriously, i was basically categorized in anarchist purgatory.

anyway political labels aren't really effective or useful..

I've taken many of these political quizzes over the years and everyone comes out as my being a Centrist, Moderate, or right leaning. I have been eliginle to vote since 1981, until the last Presidential election I had never voted for a Democrat candidate for President. I have only voted for a handful of Democrats over my entire voting life. Yet I am labeled a Liberal by some of the "true blood" Conservatives here. Makes me laugh really.
