I, along with many others, if not all, K1 petioners received an email from Sharp Entertainment in New York CIty. The email claims they will pay a plane ticket and compensate you for your expenses if they choose you, and 3 other couples for a TV series.

What does everyone think? Is it a scam? I talked to one named Kelli Sturges on skype that was with them...she wants to talk to my fiancee now. I want to find out more before I spend anymore time with them, or my fiancee. Should we ask for a contract first?

I know that this isn't a posting for visa process, but was sent to me on this site about K-1...

Has anyone else talked to them, or found out anymore than I have?

Thanks

I wouldn't trust it, nor would I want my life put on tv for others pleasure.

Immigration is a rough process as it is and hard on your relationship/family.

Everyone watching tv will see it, your life and trials will not be yours anymore, and filming your life will make things harder.

I work in the film/television industry so maybe I can offer some insight into this for you.

For one, Sharp Entertainment is a legitimate production company in New York. You can check out their IMDB to verify.

Second, you will not sign a contract unless they select you. If you ask for one, they will probably just stop talking to you right then and there. They will not be able to use any of your images/information/voice on television without you signing a release first - so you are protected already.

Here's what they are going to be doing: They will be emailing thousands of people applying for the K-1. They will most likely get hundreds of responses. They will set up Skype interviews with each partner in the relationship for a preliminary interview process. If they like you after prelims, they will set up another Skype interview. If they still like you, your tapes and information will be forwarded along to the producers in charge of selecting participants. If you are selected, you will then be offered a contract.

Reality TV contracts are notorious for giving the participants no freedom, so be prepared for that. Often times, compensation is weirdly applied (a recent contract for a big singing competition show, for example, said the prize money of $1million would be distributed over 25 years or some weird amount of time). You will be giving up a lot of privacy and control over how you're represented/portrayed.

Long story short, if you want to be on a reality show then pursue it and maybe they'll select you. Good luck if you choose to!

I am the USC/petitioner.
