Tamerlan Tsarnaev, Suspected Boston Bomber, May Not Get Islamic Funeral From Wary Muslims

Here is my opinion on this... and it's a complicated issue.

The average American is not very worldly. Obviously, those of us on a visa forum are generally more worldly, considering many of us traveled extensively and many of us are engaged or married to a foreign citizen.

When something like 9/11 happens, the average Joe is likely to think that...

Muslim = terrorist

but it doesn't stop there...

Middle Eastern = terrorist

Turban (even Sikh) = terrorist

Flying on an Airplane with anyone Middle Eastern = Oh my god, I might die today.

Because of the fact that Islam is not very common in the U.S., it's very probable that an American will know nothing about the religion, with the exception of terrorism, gender inequality, and chopping of the hands of those who steal, etc. They won't ever know about the beauty of middle eastern cultures, and the kindness which can also be attributed to Islam.

Having lived in Mongolia, I have met many Muslims. Kazakhs, Uyghurs, Turks, etc. They have been some of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Living in Los Angeles, I have met many of the various kinds of Arabs, Pakistanis, etc. and they have also been some of the kindest people I have ever met.

For Americans to equate Islam to anything more than terrorism, it is important for Americans to know about the peaceful and kind Muslims as well. No matter how many people speak out, I don't think it will help unless the Americans targeted by the speeches can make a personal connection. Maybe that day will come.

You. Are. Not. Getting. It.

You are calling out for people to condemn these attacks - and THEY ARE. They do every damn time. And that still doesn't change public opinion. So what more do you want them to do? People like you are ignoring them anyway.

I have heard some condemnations. I have also seen some strong shows of support from some clerics.

The majority in here, have refused and pointed out why should they condemn something they had no part of, but continue to label anyone and everyone who might point out anything negative an Islamaphobe.

Oh okay, so now you're admitting that these acts do get condemned. Earlier you said they don't.

Yet every time it happens again we hear no outcry from the Muslim world.

You ignore the outcry yet you want them (and people on this board) to continue to condemn these acts. Why? What good is that doing? Are you paying attention to it? No. Is public opinion changing? No.

There was a huge outcry from the Muslim world after 9/11. What did that change? Nothing. There is nothing that good, peaceful Muslims can say that will stop this from happening:

here ? at VJ? Why? no one matters, for those opinions, back to you.

If you want to study the Muslim World, you're a Daily Reader over at the Al Jazeera Website. What's yer problem, you can't view this stuff from your handphone anymore?

Don't be lazy.

You can also subscribe via your cable provider, and use a recording device to record news whilst yer at work, then watch it all in an hour whilst yer having yer sit-down dinner, every day.

Come on, shift a bit - the opinions that matter to you are almost within your viewing capability.

My one and only point is that if they want the perception of Islam to change then they are going to have change some things internally. They jsut can't call every negative thing they ever see about Islam "Islamaphobia" and end at that .

You're changing your point. Originally, you were trying to tell me that there is no outcry when someone, in the name of Islam, does something radical and terrible. Now you admit there is, but not enough. What's enough?

They don't have to communicate or change anything... The extremists in their religion don't seem to have a problem doing it for them and giving credit.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect
