Expedited processing for elderly parents?

Hello all, my mother who is a naturalized US Citizen would like to bring my grandma (her mother) over to the states but I have read/heard somewhere that older folks have expedited processing if there is nobody back home to care for them? Or expedited processing because they are beyond a certain age group? Is this correct?

No that is not correct, processing takes as long as it takes- it's less than a year though, so not too bad.

Thank you both, yeah I thought I read correct and last time I checked it was about 9 months until approval. Medical costs, yes, I agree, that's a huge drawback and one of the biggest reasons why we aren't going forward with it because by the time she becomes USC, we will be ruined financially thanks to the "great" healthcare system in this country.

Even aftter becoming a USC there are many things they will not get like any benefits from contributory system like social security/medicade. They will continue to rely on you to pay for their medical care. You may also be required to show significant assets to cover their foreseable care. Be prepared.

Just curious, why wouldn't she be able to get Medicare after becoming USC? Is it because she never worked in this country?

yes, you must pay into the system to receive benefits. They will never qualify for medicare and cannot get medicaid for at least five years. Look at the cost of health insurance before you even consider this.

That's what I thought too, thank you, yeah it's not even worth looking at insurance when you take into consideration the overall picture of what she would have to go through. Thank you for your advice

Another question I had...a good friend of mine has an I-130 in process for a few years now for his sister, it has already been approved but in the meantime, his sister got married...will she be able to bring husband along when she comes? I don't think that's possible but what do they have to do in order to bring him also? Restart entire process?

Yes, the sister needs to inform USCIS of her marital status change and will be able to bring her husband and any minor children when her turn comes.

It only really matters who the spouse and qualifying children are when a visa number comes up.
