For one seeking medical treatment in the US, but has a pending I-130, would it be better to request expedition of the I-130, or to apply for a B visa for medical treatment? What happens if one's I-130 is approved while in the US, can the interview take place in the US instead?

Basically there are two ways of going about it, and I was wondering which is more likely to work, though I suppose one could try both

In order to get expedite for medical reasons, the treatment you need must not be available where you are.

Does it make a difference if the treatment is available, but not reliable? For example, surgical procedures are available in most of the world, but not every place is at the same quality level..

It would depend on the type of surgery. You'd also need to prove you/ the petitioner can pay for the surgery in the USA, which could be very expensive.

Please fill in your profile and timeline- whether expediting the I-130 is an option/ useful depends a lot of who the petitioner is (spouse, parent, sibling) and how long ago you filed. If time is of the essence, a tourist visa is generally faster unless you expect an immigrant visa interview to be scheduled soon, but if the surgery would require long recovery time or multiple surgeries, a tourist visa may not cover it.

Orthopedic surgery (ligament torn), so it is risky in Pakistan (I know people who have died in hospitals there). She is covered by my medical insurance, so cost isn't an issue as far as I can tell. I filed in Feburary (need to add timeline), so I am wondering what is better, to request medical expedite, or get a medical visa..

Thanks!

Unless the treatment is only available in the US, happens, then usually it would be much better to go elsewhere.

I know India is very popular for treatment. And a lot closer and a lot cheaper.

Getting a visa to India from Pakistan as a Pakistani national is extremely difficult. I suppose it can't hurt to just give the visa expedite/medical visa a try. I suppose I could do both, considering how much time I have left in my I-130 process.

I had very good treatment in Sri Lanka.

ACL costs between $20,000 and $50,000 it seems. There is a guy I think in Vail who seems to attract a lot of the top sportsmen, I am going to assume he might be a bit more.

If you have the money the cost of applying for a Visa is minimal.
