There are so many wonderful threads about "I got my NOA2 - YAY!" And I am so very happy for everyone. But one thing that isn't always mentioned is how these lucky VJers got the wonderful news that their 130 was approved.

To help those of us who are on the edge of our seats biting our nails down to the quick ... will you share with us how you first found out your 130 had been approved (received the NOA2).

I tried to look through the forum to see if this information was available but after 30 minutes of looking, I decided to post my question.

I think mine would count as both email and text. I put my sister's number for the text since I'm overseas and she got the text at almost the same time I got the email. I get emails on my phone so I knew instantly that I had an email from USCIS.

Also, something that's not mentioned very often, if you get a notification (email or text) saying that they've changed the Alien number on the case it means you should be getting your approval a couple of hours or the next day. (I got mine 5 hours after)

USC married to Palestinian lived in Doha, Qatar for seven years, in the USA since July 2013 with an eight year old and a two year old smile.png

02/18/2011 - Married
04/02/2011 - NOA1 hard copy received - priority date 03/30/2011
07/08/2011 - Trevor is now a USC - called USCIS to request upgrade of the petition.
08/02/2011 - NOA2
09/08/2011 - LND case number received, medical booked
09/26/2011 - Case complete at NVC
09/30/2011 - Interview date assigned
11/08/2011 - Interview - approved!!
11/10/2011 - Visa in hand
12/04/2011 - POE in Atlanta
12/12/2011 - SSN number received in mail
12/12/2011 - Welcome notice received
01/06/2012 - Green card received
09/06/2013 - File for Removal of Conditions
10/01/2013 - Biometrics for ROC
02/03/2014 - Card production email received

March 26, 2009: We become a couple!
September 10, 2009: Arrived for first meeting in-person!
June 17, 2010: Arrived for second in-person meeting and start of travel together to other areas of China!
June 21, 2010: Engaged!!!
September 1, 2010: Switched course from K1 to CR-1
December 8, 2010: Wedding date set; it will be on February 18, 2011!
February 9, 2011: Depart for China
February 11, 2011: Registered for marriage in Wuhan, officially married!!!
February 18, 2011: Wedding ceremony in Shiyan!!!
April 22, 2011: Mailed I-130 to Chicago
April 28, 2011: Received NOA1 via text/email, file routed to CSC (priority date April 25th)
April 29, 2011: Updated
May 3, 2011: Received NOA1 hardcopy in mail
July 26, 2011: Received NOA2 via text/email!!!
July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

I had given up on checking for my case online because it never showed up. But the day I decided to give it one last try... well that was the day our cases had changed to Post Decision. So that is how I found out.

USCIS - 40 DAYS
2012-10-30: FedEx delivered I-130 to Chicago Lockbox Mail Room
2012-11-01: NOA1 by email - MSC
2012-11-02: $420 (x3) debited from our account
2012-11-05: NOA1 hard copies received, Priority Date 2012-10-30

2013-01-02: Rec'd case#, IIN, BIN & OPTIN emails for EP sent
2013-01-03: Submitted DS-261 (x3)
2013-01-07: AOS bills invoiced and paid & OPTIN for EP accepted for each of us
2013-01-08: AOS bills appear as paid & AOS packages sent by email
2013-01-08: IV bill invoiced & paid (kids' only)

After sending in our RFE documents, I checked my email several times a day. It got to the point where I stopped expecting anything and just did it out of habit. Then one day I checked at like 7 PM and found the approval email had been sitting in my inbox waiting to be found for an hour. :dance: My hubby got home from work about an hour later. What a hard time I had not calling him to tell him right away! But I wanted it to be a nice surprise when he got home. :) He picked up our chihuahua and danced around the room!

USC who lived in Manabí, Ecuador with hubby from 2009 - 2013. Hubby became a naturalized American citizen in August 2016. Currently living together in northern Virginia.

12:29am on 6/29 was just going to bed and a ping and a ding on my phone. First came the Text, than a second later email telling me to check status on website and I did.

Oh what a feeling. Oh memories. Now basking in the glow of Case Complete even better. You'll see. ;)

I logged into the website and got the wonderful news :dance:

Hubby (petitioner) may or may not have gotten a text and/or e-mail to tell him prior to that. We just found out and I could only reach him on his work cell because his personal cell was on his desk and he was elsewhere.

Since I was working at the time the approval hit, I wasn't checking my personal e-mail or the Internet, though the text and e-mail were sent at the same time that the case updated. I got the text first since I heard my phone go off, then I ran and checked my e-mail, then I went to the website, all within a couple minutes. Hooray :D

I'm a dual US/Hungarian citizen (both by birth; Hungarian citizenship verification TBA), and my husband is a dual British/Irish citizen (by treaty) from Northern Ireland. We are atheists.

PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR TIMELINE.

Here's how to get notifications by text or e-mail: Go to the USCIS website www.uscis.gov. In the Case Status box near the upper left corner of the page, enter your receipt number from the I-797C letter you received, confirming your I-130 submission reached them. The receipt number should begin with three letters and ten numerical digits (for example, ABC1234567890). Click the green Check Status button. If you recently filed your I-130, the number might not be in the online Case Status system yet. Once your number shows up as Acceptance or Initial Review, you can create an account at https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/selectusertype.jsp and select the options to be notified of case updates by text or e-mail.

The only way I learned I had been approved was by calling the USCIS and having them tell me. I still have not received either a mailed letter or email containing my NOA2, and I was approved on December 18, 2012.
