It takes about 90 days after filing to get AP/EAD card - our VJ time estimate was right on target for ours. Its about ten days from the time its approved to having the card in hand. Do you have your biometrics appointment yet? We got our card in the mail 7 weeks after biometrics. You would probably be ok - but its so hard to say - everything seems to have slowed down right now. We filed in Sept. and still haven't gotten an interview appointment. The approval is quicker if you are scheduled an interview.

It takes about three months for the approval, and then there is further processing. If you buy tickets now, know you will be paying fees to change dates.

I can't tell about %s but we did not get an interview when AOS. EAD and AP card came in the mail about 1 month after biometrics, which was about 1 month after filing; that said, it seems that at most it takes 90 days for those documents, but this is a bit more than a year ago and we all know how process times change at the drop of a pin.

You should be ok for May, but...we never plan on anything we can't back out without having to pay some penalty, for what is worth, in the past 2 years, early and late Summer fares to Europe where highly discounted around the May time frame, I think it was just the drop in demand; in some cases, we were able to get a business fare at 100-200 over the normal couch fares if you were willing to have a somewhat longer layover -which for us was perfect to have a few hour stroll in Paris-; not sure what would happen this year, economy seems to be doing better but I have already seen some really good fares to Europe. Fares after Summer, around mid Sep into October are usually also discounted and the weather would be similar to what you would find in May.

Some applicants are not interviewed. It is my understanding that it is less than half. We DID have an AOS interview (which amounted to nothing but checking over and verifying the form) I do not believe "80% are not interviewed" It is also not uncommon to get RFEs for this process.

It seems to make NO difference in actual approval time.

APs and EADs are usually, but not always, issued within 90 days. FWIW Alla and Pasha got their Green Cards before they got their EADs and APs. Go figure. As with any part of this process, it is best not to make plans until the documents are in your hand...you saw what can happen already. This step is no different.

If you buy tickets now, do so assuming all risk.

no........ a RFE is a request for evidence; meaning they want more information or the original application was missing some required paperwork

no, that's not an RFE. that's an appointment letter for the ASC.

you have multiple receipt #s now, so be certain 'the thing' you are looking at is 'the thing' with the problem.

FWIW, the USCIS portal has been a bit of a mess recently, with bad data, wrong staging, and other errors.

If she has a letter with a date and an address, to go for biometrics, well - GO for BIOMETRICS.

Seriously.

It is not unusual to get your biometrics appointment letter the same time you get your NOA1 for AOS, EAD, AP. You will have 3 different receipts. We got ours in the mail about 2 weeks after submitting our application. Like the previous posters have stated - keep the biometrics appointment and keep tract of your receipts - you have 3 different applications pending, so if you do get an RFE - you will know which application it is for.
