AOS interview - original birth cert required?

Hi all -

When i sent in my packet with the I130 , we sent a certified copy of my wife birth certificate. do we need the original at the time of the interview?

We don't have an "original" and when I called to query this I was told the certified copy was fine.

oh k - i'll just get the original just incase ..i found out from my wife the original birth certificate is with my inlaws in california so i'll get it from them.

A certified copy is an original, for immigration purposes.

They need either (i) the original copy (you won't get this from a Western country), or (ii) a copy certified by the custodian of the record to be a true and accurate copy of the original.

In our case, they did not even asked for any of our birth certificates....not even the copies of them. We only had to show or driver's licenses, passports, and our photo album and that was it.

well it seems we don't have an 'original' birth certificate for my wife :/ i had sent them a certified copy of it when i sent the petition and i have another certified copy with me on hand. I asked my wife to get her brother to go to the local office in Jordan and have them produce another copy from the government so its in the mail ! i hope i get it before 2/12 as that is when we have the interview.

do you guys think thats OK? on my notice they asked for a birth certificate, but this is all i got at this point is a certified copy and the copy that my bro in law mailed us ( gov issued birth certificate).

well, see, you've already submitted one.

When you have an interview, the Immigration Officer interviewing you is supposed to have your A-File on his/her desk.

Inside that A-File, is everything you've already submitted (plus other stuff added by USCIS and the FBI)

so - tell me - where do you see these exact instructions for what to bring to the interview? an url would be spiffy and great!

Hi Darnell - i don't have a URL but on my NOA for interview it has instructions on what to bring...including the beneficiary's birth certificate. so as you mentioned i already sent a certified copy that should be in their file ...either way i'll take the second certified copy and what i am getting from my bro in law i think i'll be fine.

are the instructions on the NOA for interview not standard?
