Uggh so frustrated

So after being on hold for an hour and fifteen minutes with USCIS to get an update for my I-485 application, the agent informed me that my file was sent back to NBC for safekeeping from the field office in Buffalo due to Hurricane Sandy.

Has this happened to anyone else? I know some people out there have been waiting a very long time for their application to be processed and that mine was going fairly quick. I just find this frustrating and feel like this is going back 2 steps.

I don't know why the field office would sen the file back to NBC since we are so far inland from where the hurricane hit.

Not much can be done with such a force majeure event.

I reckon the person you spoke to got it all befuddled...I really doubt that the file was sent to NBC or anywhere else, just to keep it safe. There would not have been enough time to get all that organised, for a start.

I'd call again tomorrow, but pick early in the morning if you can, they won't be so busy then, or later in the evening, after dinner. If you get the same story then it must be so, if not, you may hear something more along the lines of being transferred to CSC of card production ordered. I'm not certain but Buffalo don't seem to process too many AOS cases. Mine went to CSC recently.

I checked after Hurricane Sandy. My wife's I-485 was still in Buffalo, I will call and check again tonight to see if an interview was scheduled. We applied for an expedite, and the Buffalo office was very helpful in getting the paperwork transferred from the black hole that is the CSC to the local office.

Although you might get lucky, CSC is not getting any new I-485 family based applications due to their large backlog. You might get processed very fast at the NBC.

Also you might want to call back and talk to a T2 rep. They can look at a much more detailed information. It will take a while but it is well worth it to talk to the USCIS personal. The tier 1 reps are farmed out to a private company I think.

read a bit - you'll get some sense that yer AOS case is 'interview waivable', determined at the lockbox (yay!) and sent on for processing at MSC.
