Hello VJ family ,

im having a bit of an anxiety crises involving the Affidavit of support . so i keep hearing different things and not to be all paranoid but i really want to leave no stone unturned that being said , I work at a hospital as a nurse associate (in school for nursing) i started working in febuary of this year . before that i was in school and worked a few part time jobs for the past few years mostly because of school and i was on unemplyment benefits when my company went out of business. Anyway , I own my own home comletely paid off (no mortgage) with current value no less than $150,000 i plan of getting a notorized appraisal a month before inteview . Interms of my income i make no less than $2000 (underpaid? yes lol) a month after taxes . My biggest hiccup is that this year i have had to spend money on my family and other issues so savings havent been very regular and by regular i mean nonexistant. however the last 3months before the interview i will have a deposit in my savings of $5000 and thats beacause things have calm down financially a bit . Now Ghana is very funny n can be sketchy in what they focus on but technically I do have every means to qualify for affidavit of support based on my assets alone . however i am not trying to meet the bear necessities here too much at stake to leave it to chance. Im trying to figure out if in actuality the interviewers do go by the exact technical way that USCIS does in calculating the affidavit of support or do they also let things like previous work history make a difference , cuz my fiance and i really dont want to use a co sponser if not needed. I have 3 dependants ( MYself, MY daughter and my fiance)

please advice if i do have the requirements based on Ghana's protocol or do i need to be safe and get a co sponser? Please advice so we can start preping cuz im just a nervous wreck cuz Ghana consulate can be a bit funny , we have everything else completely sound interms of proof of our relationship and i plan on being there for the interview to give extra evidence that this is all legit . PLEASE HELP.

They don't care about how much you spend, just about your income (which you should be ok on, just), and assets. I think you will be fine, but I am no expert on your specific country.

If you made enough for 3 according to the guide for the I134 on you taxes for the last 3 years, then you dont need to include assets. If not, then get a cosponsor to be on the safe side. Good luck to you.

It sounds like you have enough in current income to qualify. For a family size of 3 the income requirement is about $24,000. You cannot use your home as it is the primary residence and would cause you undue hardship if you had to sell it. The poverty guidelines are here. Now each Embassy/Consulate is different and some may require more, but you at least meet the guidelines and should be fine. You will need proof of your CURRENT income in the form of an employment letter and paystubs.

Good luck,

Dave

They look at your gross income (before taxes), so if you are making at least $2000 after taxes then you should be ok. They also do not look at your expenses or debt or anything you have had to pay in the past. They just want to see if you have adequate income or assets to support your fiance.

when i had my interview, she used by husbands tax return as the only criteria. We didnt meet the requirement so she gave me another appt to come back with a co sponsor ( it was two months later). What you can do is get a cosponsor, keep it in his folder, and give it to them if they say you need a cosponsor. the second time i went we had two cosponsor( one of them we didnt really want to use) so i kept it in my folder just in case they asked for it but the one was fine so we never presented the second cosponsor

Hello

As long as you meet the poverty guidelines according to USCIS you won't need a co-sponsor

You can't use your primary home. I think you will be fine. Look at the povery guidelines here. If there are 3 of you then you will need at least $24K that is pretty much all.
