From a female perspective, after I have traveled for 12-18 hours flying, a 3 day road trip would be the last thing on my list of things to do. I would only be intrested in looking at the place I would be living and some much needed sleep.

The next week, 3 days traveling around would be nice couples time. Ask her what do she think before you plan.

Sorry for butting in.

It was actually her idea and we're good with it. There's no rush at all to get back home and will be a very leisurely drive, but we'll see.

It's no butting in at all, that's what makes this a great community, this exchange of ideas and thoughts from a world traveller perspective.

When my wife got here, she was so jacked up on adrenaline that it took her days to come downbiggrin.gif

She was highly motivated to see all the new things. We came through JFK and she wanted to stay in NYC for a night (not in the budgetno0pb.gif)

I hope you guys have a great 3 days together seeing the countryside...!

We did not have a 3 day drive after his POE, but my husband enjoyed our road trip. He had his POE in Atlanta. I picked him up there, we saw some friends for dinner and stayed in a hotel there overnight. The next day we had a 6 hour road trip home. Being from Mexico City, he liked seeing all the spread out land, trees, farms, animals, etc. along the way. It was a nice trip together alone before getting home and becoming immersed in daily family life.

Have fun!

Excellent.

It's a nice way to get started in my opinion.

I've read a lot of those threads where the foreign spouse is climbing up the wall while waiting for EAD/AP. Some have even went back home due to boredom or whatnot.

It is my intention and duty to keep future Mrs. Gowon occupied, besides what kind of Wife of a long haul trucker will she be if she's too tired for a casual drive laughing.gif

Good idea, si man.

There will be at least one inland CBP checkpoint, outside El Paso (if you're taking I-10). If you're a trucker, you're familiar with it. This shouldn't be a problem, because her I-94 will be quite fresh.

If you detour south, however, watch out for the checkpoint south of Alpine, Texas. Their attitudes and actions lend intensity to the term "De-Constitutionalized Zone," sigh man.

The VJ member luckytxn is also a trucker, si man, but he has become inactive on VJ recently, sigh man. Maybe shoot him a PM and get acquainted.

Edited to add: Where's your timeline, huh man?

We went through this checkpoint a couple of years ago - it wasn't nice.

I think the road trip would be pretty cool, since your fiancee is agreeable to it.

I plan on heading North on I-45 to Dallas, then North on I-287 to cut accross to I-40 and then head West. Then North on I-93 into Vegas, then later I-15 South into LA. Apologies about the timeline but I have my reasons.

We went through this checkpoint a couple of years ago - it wasn't nice.

That's what we're thinking. No reason to rush into the day to day directly.

We plan on doing lot's of sight seeing before little Gowons come into our lives. I am prepping a VW Westfalia strictly for that purpose. I've lived in the USA continously since 1986 and I've only been to California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Texas. This is a crying shame.
