Can anyone help me please? I'm just about to start applying for the K1 Visa and I have no idea where to start. How much is the payment required by the USCIS? I can't seem to find how much the fee is. Also when it comes to the income, since I'm not earning a lot yet because I just started working, can getting a co-sponsor really help? Please help

The fee is $340 and make sure you make the check out to the Department of Homeland Security or they will reject it. Also, if your income does not meet the guidelines you will have to get a co-sponsor but you have some time to figure that out since you don't submit the financials until the package goes to the embassy in the foreign country. Hope this helps!

 In addition to the advice you are getting already, welcome fellow Philippines member!

The petition fee is $340 as listed on I-129F instructions. To your benefit, here is Manila US Embassy instructions with other requirements and fees that you will need to prepare for after your petition is approved: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/manila/19452/public/Revised%20K1%20Instruction%20Packet%20_3__rtf2_005.pdf

You can find this download in English and Tagalog at the embassy website here: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3224.html

Be sure to check back with the embassy site from time to time as fees do change at times, and you will want to make sure you have the updated instructions when it is time for you to apply for the interview. Good luck!

When you're planning on the i-129f petition, it would be a good idea to research ALL the fees at the different stages; petition stage, interview stage(interview fee, visa fee, medical, AOS stage). Your journey won't be completed for quite a long time, and the fees don't include travelling to/from embassy/medical, sending documents through mail, visiting each other/plane tickets after visa in hand, acquiring documents and other misc factors.

The first stage is by far the cheapest.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

Click timeline or "about me" for all details.

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days

Yes right now I'm still just researching since I'm not ready yet financially :( But anyway, about the interview part you're saying that I'll get interviewed too? Not just my fiance when the petition is approved?

The foreign fiance(e) will have an interview in their home country at the embassy. Some allow the US fiance(e) to come inside the embassy however it's not a requirement at the majority of embassies. Only the foreign fiance(e) has an interview at this point, not you. This is country specifics, some US citizens are with their fiance overseas for moral support while doing the medical, or waiting outside the embassy.

After arriving in the US with the K1 visa, getting married and filing the AOS(adjustment of status), you may end up having and interview as a couple, and it's a requirement you both are present at that interview.

It's at least a good start that you're aware of the financial requirements, both the fees and the affidavit of support.

For the PI the IO can refuse the K-1 visa due to using a co-sponsor or at least that is what I've been reading here on VJ. YMMV. So I would wait until you can afford to be the only sponsor.

Good luck and welcome to the forum,

Dave
