I just spoke to the person handling the immigration casework for my congressman and she told me that in her experience, 8 months is the normal time it takes to get a k-1 visa approved. She said that she did not understand why they post the 5 month time on the USCIS website when a majority of them are longer than 5 months.

Yes 8 months as of getting I129F approved( 5-6months = that's the stage that USCIS has posted on their website) and having the interview (USCIS=>NVC=>embassy= 2-3 months) and then getting a visa in hand!

USCIS doesn't approve K1 visas (they only approve the petitions),but embassies are ;)

well for most of us January filers it looks like it will be 10-11 months total till we have visas in hand... the "lucky winners" as I call them, got their visas within 6-7 months... not to mention those who were approved within 10 days so I am guessing for them the journey will take 2-4 months? :(

I am not sure why we expect our congressperson to get things moving for us when they can't do anything for the country.

well, that maybe true, but i found this other thread here on VJ:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/55762-1st-post-former-nsc-adjudicator-now-petitioner/

i'm hoping things haven't changed too much and that through using your congressman, i can get fast-tracked like what's mentioned in this thread in posts #57 and #68. again, that's hoping things haven't changed in the last 10 years or so....

Hi Everyone. This is my first official post here on this site. I too am in the same boat in regard to working with the Vermont office. We were approved with our NOA1 on January 18, 2012 and were told that it would just be a 5 month waiting process. As soon as we arrived to June 18th, I gave my immigration lawyer a call, just to see if they had heard back about our case. They informed me to not worry, that this is normal and to just give it 2 weeks. 2 weeks passed and still, nothing has changed on this site nor did I receive any new news. I'm not sure what to expect next but this waiting process is the most difficult part. For anyone out there who has any advice or words of wisdom, please message me. Again, I'm very new to this site and feel like no one is available to answer our questions. Wishing all my fellow couples out there all the best on their journeys!!!

Hey all, seeing movement on the VSC front. I just got my text that my case got approved. Checked a few other cases with case numbers similar to mine that are also for I-129F that was also in the "Initial Review" stage last week, and now those are also approved and set to "Post Decision Activity". Hang in there...looks like the VSC train is chugging along again (hopefully).
