Hi everybody

I just had a wonderful time with my fiancé in the US and wanted to tell you about my experiences with US customs. I was pretty scared and read a ton of threads on visajourney. I was wondering about whether or not to risk it to travel to the US while the K1 visa is being processed. We got our NOA1 beginning of February and are currently waiting for NOA2. In the end, I decided to go see my fiancé because I had time off coming up and if I hadn't gone, we wouldn't have seen each other for a very long time.

As adviced I organized a lot of proof for my ties to my home country Switzerland. I had my work contract, my employer's confirmation with the date I had to be back at work, rental agreement for my apartment, plus obviously my return ticket.

I would like to give a quick overview about what happened at passport control in Philadelphia.

The officer asked:

What's the purpose of your travel

Me:

visiting my fiancé.

I immediately saw the flag that this raised and was totally prepared to go into secondary.

Do you have a job?

Yes I work as a .... I have to be back at work on May 14th.

Where did you two meet?

Camping in the Mountains in 2010.

Oh, I met my ex-girlfriend from Germany while camping.

That was it! I had to give my fingerprints as usual, got my stamp and was in. I would never expected this to be sooooo easy! No documentations needed whatsoever. I was thrilled! That's why I wanted to share this great experience with you all. I am well aware, that I am not from a high risk country, was on Visa Waiver and never overstayed one of my student's and visitor's visa.

This is great :) My guy had no problems visiting under the VWP for 89 days either. I wish they could pin a thread at the top about visiting while a K1 is in process and people could share their stories. As much as I hear about the threat of denial, etc. I've heard a LOT more stories like this.

Here's a thread that's been going on for a few years about the topic, full of experiences. It probably should be stickied, considering how often this is asked.
