What is a "smoking establishment"? I thought people went into bars to drink and restaurants to eat. People are still free to open smoking clubs if they want a smoking establishment.

There are still bars around here in FL where one can smoke. I think back home in Germany there were some places that got around the smoking ban by turning into "member only" clubs - membership was like a buck or so. Then you have cigar bars where people go to smoke - and where they can also have a drink. Thus far, the sky didn't fall anywhere when smoking bans were implemented.

People need more laws. I mean what would it be like if we didn't have the government telling us when to ####### and how to #######.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

would you have preferred battered wives syndrome? That's as good of an example as any.

Wow, zealots, fascists, bolsheviks, masochists and now physically and psychologically abused. These analogies sure make people who don't want to breath second hand smoke sound like a horrible bunch.

If I didn't already know not to take you seriously, I might be offended.

You're missing the point. People DO NOT HAVE TO PATRON establishments that allow smoking. If you continue to go there and yet complain about it, you're no better than a battered wife who keeps going back to her husband time and time again. She could just walk away and never go back to him again, just as you don't have to patron an establishment ever again.

Instead we don't like our 'choices' so we eliminate the 'choice' of others. That's a load of fvcking bullshit.

Neither do people have to patron establishments where smoking is not allowed. If a smoker can't have a drink or meal in a place where (s)he doesn't have to cut his or her way through the air first, then don't. Nobody makes you go there. Cuts both ways.

If you don't want to breath second hand smoke then stay away from it. I'm sure the non smokers can start up their own non smoking establishments instead of trying to screw the people who want to have a drink and smoke at the club.

It only works boths ways if smoking and non-smoking facilities are equally allowed. Instead the non-smokers piss, b1tch and moan to get their way.

Your point is completely moot due ot laws that restrict smoking in establishments now days.

It is. At least down here. As I said, there are establishments where you can smoke. Not the kind of place where they serve Chateaubriand but you can grab a beer or cocktail there and a bag of chips if you're lucky.

They are here in Fort Worth still too, but when an entire state (like MN for example) bans it in all restaurants, bars, night clubs, etc... then you eliminate any choice for people.

Private membership clubs would probably still be an option. If there's money to be made serving drinks and food to smokers, someone will find a way to make that money.

People can apply that logic to anything. Sometimes you have to accept it's not always about you.

What if I wanted to have sex with my wife on the restaurant table after dinner? Obviously there's a law against that. Yet I always believed I have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Do you think I have a legitimate complaint that the government has infringed upon my rights? If not, why do you look at smoking differently?
