US wary of human bomb implants on planes: Napolitano

WELLINGTON — The United States is monitoring the possibility of terror groups trying to down aircraft by implanting explosives in the human body, Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano said on Wednesday.

Napolitano stressed that there was no evidence of an imminent threat from a so-called "body bomb", but said the prospect was one of the ever-changing attack strategies that security officials had to combat.

She cited the case of Nigerian "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who tried to blow up an airliner in 2009 with explosives hidden in his pants, as an example of the innovations adopted by militants.

"It is fair to say that there are a number of ways our adversaries have explored to get explosives aboard airplanes, such as the underwear bomber," she told reporters in New Zealand.

"Another, of course... is actually implanting explosives inside an individual.

CIA thwarts 'undetectable' al-Qaida bomb plot

WASHINGTON — The CIA thwarted an ambitious plot by al-Qaida's affiliate in Yemen to destroy a U.S.-bound airliner using a bomb with a sophisticated new design around the one-year anniversary of the killing of Osama bin Laden, U.S. officials said Monday.

The plot involved an upgrade of the underwear bomb that failed to detonate aboard a jetliner over Detroit on Christmas 2009. This new bomb was also designed to be used in a passenger's underwear, but this time al-Qaida developed a more refined detonation system, U.S. officials said.

The FBI is examining the latest bomb to see whether it could have passed through airport security and brought down an airplane, officials said. They said the device did not contain metal, meaning it probably could have passed through an airport metal detector. But it was not clear whether new body scanners used in many airports would have detected it.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., who heads the Senate Intelligence Committee, told reporters Monday that she had been briefed about an "undetectable" device that was "going to be on a U.S.-bound airliner."

There were no immediate plans to change security procedures at U.S. airports.

I remember torpedoes. Saying that an airport today will more than likely get you detained for a few hours. I wonder if anyone with man-boobs will be suspected?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I make the ####### comment to Tony all the time. With all the bra padding and stuff like that you'd think that's how they're doing it now. A friend of mine dated this chick who had fake boobs that he said felt hard and not real.. so would she be patted down and suspected? Would people with too many fat rolls be suspects? I'd say just have everyone go through those body scanners but the abuse of the system is a bit disappointing :(
