Who's bought a plane ticket before visa received?

Just wondering how many of you have made real travel arrangements before you've actually got the visa in hand? I'm going to wait until I get home after my interview (just in case...) but will be booking it before I actualy get the visa. Has anyone every heard of one getting lost?? I'm almost tempted to buy a ticket now, those cheap flights had better still be there next monday...

I have the same problem:

I want to travel immediately after i receive my visa in the mail, so I really want to book a flight right know. but people recommended to me to wait until the visa is in my hands and then book a flight, just to be safe.

therfore I will wait. I am hoping to get a flight that is not too expensive on very short notice after my visa is there. I know it will be difficult but to me this is the safest way.

I agree with Tachy, I recommend waiting until you have the visa in hand. Although it depends on a lot of different things I'm sure, just because you were approved doesn't mean the visa will come in the standard time. My fiance was "approved" at his interview on Aug 30th and still has no visa, and we made the mistake of buying a ticket It's not a bad idea though to keep an eye on the prices so once your visa arrives you know where to go and what to expect.

I have booked my ticket, just because Virgin Atlantic had a really great sale on. We are not flying back untill a week after the interview though. I figured that would give plenty of time for both the visa to be sent but also just incase god forbid there is a problem.

I think Virgin sale is on till Friday so it maybe worth checking there prices!

Getting nervous? I am, im thinking we have forgotten to do something, or a form or something. Plus im also not sure what type of evidence of relationship to bring.

We were confident and bought David's ticket as soon as we knew his interview date. But we also did our research and knew the average wait times for Frankfurt.

Bought the tickets before the visa ... then rebooked with a penalty .... then rebooked again with another penalty.

I too bought it before the visa (the first time I had an interview scheduled) and had to cancel it because of IMBRA recall.

I did. Cost me over $100 to re-book when the visa did not come through as expected. I'd left a week to cover contingencies, but it was not enough.

I also booked my flight ahead of time. I booked it for a week after the interview to allow time for the visa to be delivered. When it comes to cheap flights, its just a chance you have to take.

I bought my fiancée’s airline ticket before her interview. The airline ticket only had a $50.00 rescheduling fee on American Airlines but we had no problems with the interview and my fiancée left as schedule for a much cheaper fare that buying it with one or two days notice.
