K-1 application fee - Helsinki

Hi, I just have to ask because I don't understand at all and I'll soon start crying

I have all the documents ready for the interview and I want to send my checklist to the Embassy, in Helsinki, Finland. Only one question remains. They say on the checklist:

"VISA APPLICATION FEE: Application fee of USD___ or Euros___ can be paid to our xxx account, please bring the receipt to the interview."

WHAT is the ammount they want? I've found mixed information:

On the US Helsinki Embassy site, they say:

"K category immigrant visa $240 - €192.00 "

http://finland.usembassy.gov/fees.html

But on http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1263.html they say:

"K – Fiance(e) or Spouse of U.S. citizen category visa: $350.00".

So which one is it? I really don't want to make anymore mistakes so please help me!

Im not really good at answering things like this but ill try. From what i read in other posts the fees have changed. Im not sure if the fees have changed for everywhere or just for certain countries. Try calling the consulate where you need to send your documents they should be able to tell you the exact amount.

You know Helsinki Embassy is also pretty fast in replying on emails so if you ever have questions that you can't find answers on the official websites or here on visajourney, my suggestion is to email them (to the immigrant visa email address.) I sent them emails more than few times and they always replied to me kindly and usually within 1-2 days...sometimes even on the same day!

But sounds like the fee problem is solved, just wanted to write the above in case you get any tricky questions.

Good luck!

Oh I do have another question... it's so confusing :(

I'm trying to make the application fee payment now, and on the Embassy site, they say:

"The receipt must state the visa applicant's name (message field - viestikenttä) and the archive ID number (arkistointitunnus)."

I have no "archive ID number",at least I have never seen it. Does a K1 applicant have one at all?

Archive number would be the case number assigned by NVC. In your case it likely starts with alpha code doe Helsinki (possibly HEL?) and then 10 digits

In order for my fiance to pay his application fee will I have to call NVC for the new case number so he can pay online? I just assumed he could pay at the embassy when he went for his interview. I wasn't planning to call NVC unless I have to :)

Welcome to the forum.

:guides: In particular, the site's excellent K1 Flow Chart. The DoS works with case file numbers, not receipt numbers from USCIS. The DoS usually sends you a notice with the case file number a couple of weeks after sending your approved petition to the interviewing consulate. The operative word is usually, there are several threads lamenting the fact that some folks never received the notice. How is the DoS going to know which account to credit the visa application fee payment without referencing the case file number? Get your DoS case file number from the NVC.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Good. I was trying to impress upon you the need for you to obtain your DoS case file number.

The VJ site embassy info page indicates visa fee payment is done the same day as the interview. If that has changed, an email inquiry to the embassy may be warranted, or another Finnish VJ member may have additional information.

Good luck on your visa journey.

good.gif Great advise! Although I would change the order: Embassy website, Embassy, VJ.... I put VJ last, NOT because there's something wrong with VJ, of course; but simply because the Embassy is always the one with the last word, and many people come here first for some VERY specific things that are best answered by the Embassy itself.
