Hi All,

I have my AOS interview tomorrow and Im very ervous.

I have put together all documents request in the notice and that I had submitted with the application.

I have also made copies of all documents in case the officer wants to keep for his/her reference.

Big question, how should we dress for the interview?

Should we wear suit (jacket and tie for me a pant suit for my wife)?

Or is it ok to wear dress pants and dress shirt?

Also please let me know if you guys have any tips/suggestions!!

Dress up nicely wouldn't hurt though.

I think get the one that make you feel confident so you won't be worried about the dress and concentrate with the interview. :)

You don't need a full on suit, but most people wear something nice - business casual, for example. First impressions are important, but don't make yourself uncomfortable either. I wore a skirt and a blouse and my husband wore a pair of dress pants, a dress shirt and a tie.

I am the USC, husband is adjusting from B2.

08.06.2010 - Sent off I-485
08.25.2010 - NOA hard copies received (x4), case status available online: 765, 131, 130.
10.15.2010 - RFE received: need 2 additional photos for AP.
10.18.2010 - RFE response sent certified mail
10.21.2010 - Service request placed for biometrics
10.25.2010 - RFE received per USCIS
10.26.2010 - Text/email received - AP approved!
10.28.2010 - Biometrics appointment received, dated 10/22 - set for 11/19 @ 3:00 PM
11.01.2010 - Successful biometrics walk-in @ 9:45 AM; EAD card sent for production text/email @ 2:47 PM! I-485 case status now available online.
11.04.2010 - Text/Email (2nd) - EAD card sent for production
11.08.2010 - Text/Email (3rd) - EAD approved
11.10.2010 - EAD received
12.11.2010 - Interview letter received - 01.13.11
01.13.2011 - Interview - no decision on the spot
01.24.2011 - Approved! Card production ordered!

I see no reason to dress up...but it's always good to look nice,

I plan on wearing nice jeans and a dress shirt...maybe with a trendy vest...

July 2005 - met my awesome, hot, amazing love in Lousiana.
July 2006 - Married said love and moved to Canada.
June 2011 - Entered US to visit family, decided to stay.

Haha...a couple years ago, yep! But if you stay with current fashion trends it is fairly popular now, just has to be the right style. ;) anything that can be interpreted as a modern flare with vintage inspiration is good right now. And what is really funny is the geeky hipster look that people think is cool now, but in the nineties really did make you a geek.

The Journey

Arrived on F1 visa on 25 Dec 2008. Graduated June 2011. Started OPT Sep 2011.

AOS applied March 21, 2012. GC approved June 11, 2012 & received June 18, 2012.

Exactly three months from start to finish,no RFEs.

AOS Timeline:

Day 01,March 21, 2012: Concurrent filing of I-130/AOS/EAD/AP to Chicago Lockbox

Day 02,March 22, 2012: Package delivered to Chicago Lockbox

Day 04,March 24, 2012: USCIS Acceptance Confirmation received through e-mail

Day 07,March 27, 2012: Checks cashed.

Day 13,April 02, 2012 : NOAs received for I-130,I-485,EAD/AP & Biometrics

Day 36,April 25, 2012 : Biometrics Completed at Elizabeth, NJ.

Day 45,May 04, 2012 : E-mail notification for interview received for June 11

Day 46,May 05, 2012 : Received hard copy of interview notice

Day 56,May 16, 2012 : EAD/AP Production e-mail

Day 64,May 24, 2012 : EAD/AP Card in hand

Day 83,June 11,2012 : Interview. Approved same day. Card production email.

Day 84,June 12,2012 : E-mail Notification registering PR status.

Day 87,June 15,2012 : USPS picks up GC from USCIS.

Day 88,June 16,2012 : Received two hard copy mails, approving I-130 & I-485

Day 90,June 18,2012 : 10-year GC in hand. End of GC journey, for now.

Hi all VJers,

I had my AOS interview yesterday and it went very well.

I would sincerely like to thank you for all your help in the last few months. :D

I would like to share my experience for the benefit of others.

Just to give you guys a little background, I am the beneficiary and my wife is the applicant.

I am in USA on F1 visa for the last 5 years and had applied for AOS last year after marriage (my wife is a USC)

The lady who conducted the interview was very polite and warm. (F)

She started off asking me my date of birth, our wedding date and on what Visa I had entered USA.

When I told her I am on F1 Visa and came here for my master's she asked me:

Which school did u go to?

How was your learning experience?

Why did you select this course?

All the above questions were asked very casually and I answered correctly.

Then she asked if we had any joint documents and pictures.

We showed her: joint bank account, joint auto insurance, joint appartment lease.

Then we showed her pictures from our reception and honeymoon.

She complimented us saying that we make a very beautiful couple.

She retained copies of our joint accounts and few pictures.

I asked her if she needed anything else as I had more proof and documents.

She said she was satisfied and approved my green card.

Overall the interview was not more than 10 mins. It did'nt even feel like an interview. :P

I have a message for you all: Please do not get tensed when you go for an interview.

Do your best, get all documents possible and be well prepared but there is no reason to panic.

If your application is genuine they should approve it. :)

I genuinely wonder: what if my I-130/I-485 is absolutely , totally and indisputably approvable and I answer all the questions straight to the point staring blank into the eyes of IO, would they deny me for wearing funny clothes?

What if I grow mustache that is 40 inches long, put some gel on it and point it upwards but maintain absolutely serious facial expression, again, would this be grounds to deny the AOS?

What do you guys think?

lol wear appropriate clothing according to business dress code, that's what I suggest.

It wouldn't be the reason to deny your AOS but it wouldn't help as well.

An interview with the USCIS ain't something fun.
