"Ken Hughes" Scam Alert!!!!!

Got a call thi evening. We werent in, so they left a message. Something to the effect of this is urget, please call Ken Hughes at 888-249-4134.

no company name, info as to why, nothing.

i googled this number and it turns out ot be a scam. they essentially say that you owe somebody money and must pay up.

There a number of sites that talk about this. For example: A site on Ken Hughes

Google it up and see for yourselves.

Anyways, wanted to alert my VJ peeps. Don't ever give out personal info unless you are absolutely sure who yu are speaking to.

I've had a few of those kinds of messages left for me as well. If I don't know them, and they don't leave a detailed message as to why they are phoning, I do not return their calls.

I have some rules about which calls to return:

  • voice message must be from a live person (it's easy to tell when it's machine generated)
  • VM must be clear enough to be understood (I've had calls where there was a garbled "case number" reference; after receiving repeatedly, I called the mentioned tollfree--ONCE--and then wrote a letter stating "you're calling me, but you didn't even send documentation--only the garbled case-#; you can either send documents, stop calling, or be prepared for a lawsuit". I actually had googled the company from the name on the tollfree--and it came up with a plethora of complaints, so I had plenty of ammo for a lawsuit).

Worst are those that do machine-generated voice-prompt-menus (on those I hang up immediately).

I get these every now & then. I tried calling one just for the hell of it, it immediately went to a recording telling me "your call is very important to us" and "a customer service representative will be with you very soon". Since I'm not a customer I hung up. Plus, I had already wasted 90 seconds of my life.
