Hi Fellow VJ:

Just have questions to raise to y'all again to those who were able to adjust their status here in the US. First tho, I was already done with my SSN application ( it was pretty quick and easy ) and will just have to wait w/n 10-14 working days to get the card ( cross fingers - that's what I was told ). Second, we were done applying for a marriage license and we will get married SOON :D ( Getting the marriage license was also so easy. they only asked for my passport and my fiance's ID and made us fill out a form at their computer and after a few minutes we paid and they hand us the license )

So now, after getting married, I wanna have ideas on what to do next :D I suppose AOS already?? if I am not mistaken? I arrived here close to 1 month and my I-94 will expire 2nd of February. And so:

1. when can I possibly apply for AOS?

2. We are now in Texas, and so where should we send the application? (FYI: when we filed for the K1, that was addressed in California. My

My fiance's permanent address which he used with the application was the California address )

3. Do we need a personal appearance for the AOS? how long does it usually take after the application to do any personal appearance ( if there is ) and where will it be?

4. In a few months time we might be moving to some other state, will it affect the AOS application? What must be done if and when we move to another state?

5. What are the documents needed during the AOS?

6. LASTLY, any advice or suggestions from everyone will be highly appreciated!

Thanks!!!!

You can file for AOS as soon as you have a copy of your certified marriage certificate that was filed with the courts after you marry.

1. As soon as your married and have the marriage certificate

2. It's in the instructions. Chicago.

3. There will be biometrics (fingerprints and photos) and there MAY be an interview (some do, some don't). Only time will tell.

4. Yes it can. Moving can really cause issues. There have been many cases where people have moved and their mail gets lost and they don't find out till they're denied. I suggest if you're planning on moving, to put a PO Box as your initial mailing address. Once you move file the proper paperwork (AR-11) for the immigrant, and have a friend check your mail for you. Government mail should NOT be forwarded. People have gotten lucky but it's not supposed to happen so it's rare. If you want to wait to file after you've moved (I did), that is safer but of course it will be longer till your spouse gets their EAD/AP/AOS and they'll be out of status once their I-94 expires.

5. In the instructions. Also, there's an AOS thread in my signature that should help you.

6. Be patient but also vigilant. More people than I think is "normal" have waited MONTHS without hearing. I've read at least 2 waiting more than 2 years. The standard lately (can be quicker but at worst) seems to be a month for NOA1, another month for biometrics, a 1-3 months for a scheduled interview OR approval without interview. If you hit 6 months and haven't heard, that is odd and should be followed up.

very precised. so i'll just add that when you move, make sure that USCIS update your new address...i knew some that already did yet at the end they still sent her GC to the old one and caused her another month of delay.
