Just out of curiosity, during your interview did they ask anything about your intent when entering? Did you have to prove that you originally planned on leaving the U.S. but the situation changed? Congrats on your successful interview and best wishes in the future!

Not precisely those words but she did it in a round-about way where if I had answered incorrectly it would have been a "gotcha" moment. She asked when we decided to live in the US. I told her about how we were planning on going back to Australia when we came in November, but then the job lead I was pursuing fell through (true). So it was in late November/December (after we were already in the US) that we decided the best course of action was to stay.

I didn't mention to her that I actually had thought that it was impossible to apply for a greencard while my wife was in the US- I thought she had to be abroad. The officer at secondary at O'Hare was the one who told me that I could apply for an AOS.

Good to know. I'm in a similar situation myself and contemplating how we're going to proceed. Glad everything worked out for you!
