State Poverty line = $37,000

Household = 4 kids, my spouse and I (6 total)

Spouses income = $27,000

Equity in home + savings = $21,000

Finding a joint sponsor is challenging. But if we found one, how much must their income be with respect to the information I shared with you?

(We have a car that we hadn't used as asset worth $9,000. Can we use it if we have a 2nd vehicle?)

Currently in US, just finished Masters in May, got married and applied for AOS. From UK, spouse is from US.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry for the Confusion: There is a difference between Appraised Value, Tax Value, Net Asset Value and ACTUALLY what you can sell it for in Todays Market. ACV means: Actual Cash Value. A home Equity of $21,000.00 does not mean Nothing./Just because the Tax Assessor charges you that rate does not mean you can sell your PRINCIPAL Household due to the fact you will have to find another place to reside. $21,000.00 is not an issue. Better to state you have a home you own.

Second vehicle is Countable. Not a $9000.00 figure. FIGURE $2,200.00 to be realistic.

I don't mean to be Negative. Just looking at the figures. Struggling myself. Good luck. A family of 6. That takes guts!

The joint sponsor needs an income that will cover their household plus the intending immigrant. See the form I-864P (linked above in the thread as well as below in my signature) to determine the income amount.

Value of real estate must be established with a recent valuation done by a licensed appraiser, less any mortgage(s).

Value of a second car is a realistic market value. Use something like kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) to get a sense of the value. Use the low end of any range.

Basically with an income of $27,000 you are $10,487 short. If you use assets to make up the difference you'd need assets of $31,461 to qualify (3x the shortfall in income).

Assets must either be liquid or easily liquidated. Household values are not of much use today due to the rapidly changing housing market - and if you attempted to use equity in the home you'd need a very recent apprasial of the property from a licensed appraiser (about $350-500 to obtain an appraisal). Tax valuation is not acceptable. Cars are especially difficult to use based upon differing guides for determining values. Most automobile valuations are done on a wholesale basis using the "Black Book". This guide is what dealers use to put a dollar figure on a car.

:bonk: I might not be remembering this but I think I do. CASH is ONLY Countable based on a approximate 1/3 Ratio to USCIS. Assets (Only Certian) are based the same. (USCIS Officials do not have a Kelly Blue Book on their Desk. ) Market Value can mean anything. The World is for profit and if your desparate you have to take the highest bidder. Consumers think their PROPERTY is Worth so much money, and when they try and sell it find: It an'nt worth what others are willing to pay. Which is LIQUID Cash in One Year Or Less to USCIS or proof of Cash.

In essence: Why do people say I have no job but $20,000.00 in the Bank and Members say: You will need a Co-Sponsor for falling short when for a Couple of 2 you need at least $58,000.00 in Savings.

Suggestions welcome.

Assets have to be 3X the difference between income and required income (household size)

SO: If 125% poverty level is $37000 and income is $27000 then $30000 assets are required.

IF you are reporting assets of $21,000 then you are credited for $27,000 income + $7000 meaning $34,000. SO you need a joint sponsor that makes $3000 more than required for his/her household size to meet the $37000 required total.

Hope that helps.

State Poverty line = $37,000

Household = 4 kids, my spouse and I (6 total)

Spouses income = $27,000

Equity in home + savings = $21,000

Finding a joint sponsor is challenging. But if we found one, how much must their income be with respect to the information I shared with you?

Thanks for the replies.

1. 125% of the 37,000 = 46,250. Does this mean the Joint Sponsor [JS] needs to cover their household's Poverty Line [PL] plus ours? [$46,250]?

2. Will the JS's income be added to my spouses or not? Confused there. My understanding was that the USCIS will take into consideration my spouse's income and assets plus those of the JS.

awaiting your good replies...thanks!
