Ireland not looking good at all. There are a lot of American companies i think going to pull out of Ireland soon. Greece about to default on bailout repayments, another mainland bank in Europe gets bailed out again.

It's a shame want to retire back. Have much family. There

But like I told her I can make a living here. Not great but fair

cheers. relationship hopefully continues but the my main reason for moving is lack of work in Ireland. I have a job currently but i can see the trouble coming on the horizon. Is it possible to apply for the H-1B visa while on a travel visa?

Have you looked at the requirements for an H-1B visa?

A US employer must file a Labor Department certification in order to hire a foreign worker. Basically, the US employer must attest that no US worker was available for the job. The employer must advertise the position, etc. After all of this is done, the employer would apply for the H-1B visa on your behalf.

The US is not going to let you immigrate here to take a job that could go to someone already here. Essentially, it would be stupid to allow an employer to bring in a foreign worker when there is a US resident who qualifies for the job and needs a job. The exception is made when the US employer cannot find a US worker. That's one of the reason for the H-1B visa program, to provide a foreign worker when a US employer cannot find a US worker.

You will have to find an employer who is willing to go through the bureaucratic immigration system and spend money on a lawyer in order to bring you over for a job.

In addition, a college degree is generally required. Some college may not meet that requirement.

I am not trying to rain on your parade. Just pointing out some of the obstacles you are facing.

I have some college education

What does that mean, enough to qualify for a H1B?

What specific skills do you have to attract a US Employer to go through the time and expense?

i have looked through it and from what i can see extensive experience especially at the management level would satisfy the criteria, which i have. the issue is trying to find a place in the US where my experience and skills exceed that of the other us applicants. That is why i ask is it possible to get the H-1b if i'm in the us on a travel visa. going over for three months and searching for a sponsor is it allowed?

So we can forget the H1B.

It's fine for you to search for a job while here on the VWP.

The hurdle you face is finding an employer who is willing to go through the immigration process to apply for an H-1B visa on your behalf. While you may have experience and skills that exceed those of US applicants, that is not the criteria for an H-1B visa. There are many US workers who will qualify for a sales and marketing job - there are lots of unemployed US workers with MBA degrees and work experience currently unemployed. They don't have to have the experience or skills you have. It's not about getting the best worker. It's about allowing a US employer to bring in a foreign worker when there is an available US worker. If the US worker meets the requirements for the job (even if he/she is not as experienced or skilled as you), then the employer cannot hire you because the employer cannot attest that there isn't a qualified US worker for the job.

You do realize that most places in the US have high unemployment also, right?

H-1B Visas are more difficult to get in the current economy. They are a lot of hassle and expense for the employer not to mention they need to demonstrate a shortage of skilled US based workers in the field.

I know that its not as clear cut as its made out to be in this link but if i find an employer to sponsor me this seem to me the most likely one to apply for? also could i still be denied my visa even if i get the job offer? some of the answerss im getting here make it seem not worth the risk...
