I have no idea if it's the fear of dealing with USCIS again and dealing with all that waiting game or losing the life I've been working so hard for and finally got and getting deported, but I'm scared ###### less about filing for AOS.I keep postponing it to when I get my license so I can take care of it myself, but in reality I'm just scared.

Is it normal?did it happen to you?

Hm no not really had the opposite.

Wanted to file as soon as possible so nothing would happen to me and get deported for not filing soon enough and such. Wanted the green card in my hand ASAP and have the security of being a legal resident.

Yep I do but you also need to remember you did enter on the K-1 to marry so you aren't really going to have a lot anyways? Lots of people don't have a lot to put in the AOS packet and i'm pretty sure they see that quite often because of being just recently married and such.

Try and relax, i know its easy to say but you are over the more hard part of the process ( actually getting the k-1 ). We didn't really include much with our AOS not even a single wedding photo.

Relax, and don't get scared. Approval for AOS is nearly guaranteed for K-1 visa holders. You do not need to submit any evidence of a bona fide marriage with your packet - you are applying based on your approved I-129F and subsequent marriage to the petitioner within 90 days of your arrival. Your relationship has already been vetted at the consulate stage.

The sooner you bite the bullet and apply, the sooner you will see your Greencard come, the sooner you will get your work permit, and the sooner you will get that "Welcome to the USA!" letter. In other words, the sooner you can relax. The fear is imaginary. Good luck and send off your packet!

If it makes you feel better we didn't even have an interview. He got his AP and EAD a few months after filing, traveled home for almost two months, came back and started working. It did take about 7 months to get his green card but I was used to waiting by that point.

You're needlessly worried. And I say that as a hopeless worrier.

I sent the AOS package last Wednesday and even though I had verified via tracking # that it was delivered on Friday I didn't get the email/text messages yesterday.

Naturally, I imagined that the package was accidentally delivered to the wrong place and hoodlums now had access to our SS numbers and other information.

So today I was driving to work in the rain from Los Angeles to Long Beach. It was past noon and my official time to start at work is 7:00.

When my phone started vibrating I was worried it may have been a manager/coworker, but the vibration ended and it was a text message.

Then I got another text message a few seconds later. I knew right away that if there was a third text message, that these would be the text messages from USCIS.

And sure enough the third text came too.

What's the moral of this story? There's no need to worry about it too much. :energy:

Yes, I was really scared of doing something wrong too. After all that waiting, I couldn't imagine our AOS being denied and him having to return to Brasil. I just read the guides a hundred times and included everything I could think of that might show we were together. We included our rental agreement, bank account in both of our names, and insurance policies among other things. We did get called for an interview, but it ended up being really easy and fast. Now that ROC is coming right up, I am getting nervous again, but I have been collecting evidence for the past 2 years, so I am trying to stay calm. I think it is a normal part of the process. In the end, you do the best you can and follow the guides here on VJ. It is a stressful time that can really take its toll on your marriage, so just do all you can and then leave it up to USCIS and hope for a positive outcome. I don't know your situation, but I believe that if you get your package ready and double check it a couple of times, you can relax and sit back and wait. :) Good luck to you!

Why would they deport you? You are better of by completing and sending the AOS as soon as possible, especially if you have an interest in working in the US. Also, what is this idea of postponing it until you get your license? What license? A driver's license? What would a driver's license have to do with this at all?

The AOS is not that complicated plus you or your husband should already have some of the necessary documents prepared and you would only need to modify them to reflect the changes. For example, you would already have the affidavit of support prepared and the biographical information sheet would only need updating. You have already completed your medical, and if it has not yet been a year since you had it, then you do not need to have another medical completed. Even if you did made a mistake with the AOS paperwork they would send you a RFE, not deport you automatically... There are enough real fears in life to be worried about fictional ones.

I think all that super proof you need to verify your bonafide marriage comes at the ROC stage, you've got tons of time. The AOS is just to let them know that you've fulfilled your requirements of the K-1 visa: Either marry the petitioner within 90 days, or vacate the country. Since you did it, you're fine! Spend the two years collecting proof of marriage for the ROC :)

for all the time you waited to file for AOS is a waste of time and you could have had your GC by now

Everybody is excited to file for AOS and hope for the best outcome, and if you have a genuine relationship, then you shouldn't be that worried.

File, good luck & you'll be fine
