My sweety is gonna be here in a few days and I am dirty with poison ivy all over my arms and hands. Not only do I look like I'm suffering from some flesh eating virus this stuff spreads like kudzu.

Anyone have any good remedies other than the calamine I've been swimming in?

Worst timing in the world!! You finally get to be together but you have to be separated. And you say look a mess, which is the opposite of what you want for a reunion. Someone help this guy out! :)

Sadly nothing but time to cure the rash, but to ease the symptoms you could try an oatmeal batch.

I don't know if this would work on a large-scale outbreak, but might help you keep it from spreading.

I had a really terrible bout with poison ivy when I was little, and it seems I only have to be within a mile of the plant to get it. If I see the blisters starting I pierce them with a sterilized needle and clean ALL of the liquid that comes out with rubbing alcohol (it's this 'oil' that causes it to spread) and then tape a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol on it for an hour or so, just to make sure it's all dried out. It has been years since I've had more than a few 'preliminary' blisters.

I am not suggesting that you do this if your hands and arm are totally covered and raw, but you could keep it from spreading further.

I feel your pain dude, poison ivy is not fun and it spreads like wildfire.

Antihistamines can make the need to scratch less manic.

I have had the same problem a few times (my dogs always seem to find the stuff) and there is really only one way known to speed up the healing (and it is very fast) if you go to a doc-in-the-box they will give you a five day (sometimes seven day) steroid that will clear it up.. usually its five pills the first day, three the second and third day, then two, then one..

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

I think you are right. Thats what my doctor suggested. By the way I've been meaning to tell you that I find your profile picture hilarious and at the same time a little scary.

Heh :) The picture is from a birthday card my mother gave me when I was in my mid-20s, I removed the spoon the kid was holding and the table. The caption was "There is one in every family". I'm sure I have not helped that reputation in my family by marrying someone from Colombia :)

When you get the steroid, you'll wake up in the morning astounded at how much healing your body can do in one day... My poison Ivy was oozing from various parts of my face the last time and within 30 hours it was 90% gone.. Might be a good week to do some extra heavy workouts!
