Hello everyone,

Posting again hoping someone went through this before.

I have posted on this before but it seemed like no one had experience with the subject.

I lost my current passport a few months ago. I have my expired passport with my us visa in it and I have my I-94. I also have a Jamaican driver's license. I sent in my I-485, I-130 and I-765 and a letter noting that my current passport was lost. I have not received any RFE's. I received my Biometrics appointment letter for the 19th of this month. I am worried I will not be able to do biometrics without my current passport. It is not easy to get a replacement passport. Will they accept just my Jamaican driver's license as Id? Does anyone have experience with this. Please help....I am very worried.

I can't get a new passport without giving them my old passport and my driver's license which they will hold for 6 weeks or more. I can't hand over the only forms of id I have and I don't have the time.

Thanks in advance.

My wife used her state driver's license when she had her biometrics. If the DL is foreign, I'm not quite sure.

I answered this identical question from you before. Jamaican DL is not sufficient, but your old passport is. Bring your expired passport.

"Harpa Timsah"

Thanks again for your response. I am just trying to find someone that has been in the same situation as me. I assume that most persons who have used expired passports as ID came here when their passports were current and then they expired after being here for a long time. My situation is different which is why I am so worried.

My passport isn't just expired like most persons it is expired and cancelled because I got a new one after it expired. In Jamaica when you renew your passport they cancel the old one and if you have a visa is in your old passport you travel with both passports. So when I came to the states I had my old expired, cancelled passport with my visa, and my current passport which they stamped. I lost the current one but I still have my I-94. I just wonder if my old passport can still be used since it was cancelled and replaced with another one.

Thanks.

And I have answered this before too, the expired old passport will not be acceptable, you may try calling the Jamaican embassy in DC to see if you can expidiate your re-issue passport.

Let's be clear on all front, NO EXPIRED DOCUMENTS can be used as valid ID documents. BTW, your Jamaican DL doesn't have a picture on it, so how would you have used that as an ID?

What did you submitt to USCIS in the AOS package?

Expired documents CAN be used as ID, ask JustBob. There is no rule that it can't be expired - some countries will not renew passports from abroad, or without proof of legal presence, and plenty of people AOS from overstayed visas (and old passports).

They want proof of who you are from a reliable source. I don't think the fact that is is old, expired, or cancelled will make any difference, as long as you can see your face on it etc.

They (the US government) uses the ID as a legal document to document that you are the person that they are speasking to. Now, they will use an expired document, along with a non-acceptable valid ID, ie, such as a gym card or credit card which has a picture on it.

I was at the BIO- office in Alex, VA last week and this is what was explained to an individual. They had an BC,expired passport, and a student ID from school.

I don't think JustBob speaks for the entire US govt agencies.

I suggested you ask him because he AOSed with expired documents, and has first-hand experience with the matter, and did exactly this same thing.

You can get your lost passport replaced in 7 working days, it will cost you approximately $160US dollars please google www.pica.gov.jm. This is a not a document that is hard to replace. :bonk: :bonk: :bonk: And again they don't take your old passport from you unless you never and remember NEVER travelled before in it and also it has your visa in it

You should be fine with a DL or any other form of photo ID. I don't know if you're a woman but if you are then you'll need to take your marriage licence to show change of name (if applicable).

In regards to your passport, here: http://www.jamaicanconsulatechicago.org/passport.htm says:

Replacement of lost or Stolen Passports (see also Renewal of passports above):

In addition to the documents mentioned under the heading Renewal of Passports, persons who have lost or had their passports stolen must submit a Police Complaint Report and ONE of the following: A) Jamaican driver's license B) Cancelled Jamaican Passport C) Jamaican voter's registration card D) Work Permit bearing a photograph from the country of residence E) Identification indicating permanent residency F) Driver's Licence from country of residence G) Other identification issued by a Federal/State/City authority which has an expiration date (subject to approval by a Consular Officer)

Seems to me I would use my Jamaican DL for the biometrics, and i would re-apply for a passport once you have the EAD or GC or whatever... that's of course because I don't know what you have from that list. But if you have two of anything listed I would try an get a passport asap using one of the types of info listed, and keep the other for proof of ID for the GC process.

Thank you all so much. Your responses were all very helpful.

Thank you Juan and Nan

To "Stud Muffin" and "Life's Journey" the passport can only be expedited if you are in Jamaica. On the website pica.jm.gov it tells you in the FAQs that if you are overseas you have to apply overseas and it takes about 20 working days. I am in Florida and was told by the Jamaican consulate in Miami which handles Florida that they do not expedite and the process takes approx 6 weeks. "Life's Journey" the Jamaican Driver's license does have a picture on it and always has and in the AOS package I submitted a copy of my visa and I-94 and a letter stating that I lost my current passport. Thanks a lot. You were both very helpful and eased my mind a lot.

Harpa Timsah I will ask "Just Bob". Thank you for suggestions. Your advice was very helpful as well and eased my worries a lot.

Vanessa & Tony Thank you very much. I am a female so I will definitely take my marriage license. I have to use what I have and then apply for my passport later.
