You can buy a house and a car in the US right now, from Australia. Your visa status doesn't matter at all. Though, with no credit score, you'll find it hard to be approved for any loan. If you got cash, go ahead.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

I'm just wondering if it's legal to buy a house and a car in America on an employment visa or if I just have to stay in an apartment and rent a car when I'm there. Thanks.

Agree with Harpa. Totally legal but you have ZERO credit history so you'll probably not be able to get a loan so would need to buy outright. Same with a car.

You can buy parts of this country and many politicians if you've got the cash. The sky's the limit!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You can buy them mail order. I think half the US is owned by foreigners. Whenever we need money we just borrow it from China.

So how do you build credit in America? Is it any different?

Oh I see, you want to use someone else's money to buy a home. That's different.

The best and fastest way is to open an account with a credit union that gives their members credit cards, use it a little, pay it off and in 6 months they will give you a credit increase...then go from there.

Given 2-3 years and a good income, you will be able to qualify for a home loan. If you have cash, you can buy anything you want.

No need to even be in the Country to buy property and a car, all can be done over the Internet.

I agree with this method, credit cards and a banking/checking accounts are easy way to get credit. Just make sure to pay cc off and just do a little bit of research(interest rate, annual fee, etc.), also if you want a car you can possibly get a new car or a used one if you have someone to cosign for you. Good Luck!

You can buy either, but, depending on what state you live, rules will be different. In NY state you need to get what they call 6-points ID's to prove your identity to buy a car. Foreign passport is 3 points, social security number is 1 point, credit card 1 point, etc. If you do no have a way to get the 6 points, you will not be able to buy a car even with cash. In my case, I had cash and 5 points and was not able to buy it until I got the 6 points.

Come to Colorado, you just need the money.

Excuse me Sir, I see you have advertised your piece of sh*t Nissan for sale. You re asking $6,000, yet the Blue Book says it's only worth $3,000. Would you except $5,999 in cash, right now?

Only if you have 6-point verification!

Yeap sounds funny, but that is how it goes in NY. The issue is that they will not be able to issue the title with the DMV, so you could not legally own a car. So in my case I wanted to buy two cars, I had cash but I had only 5 points and my wife had only 3. So I had to wait until I had the 6 points, and had to buy the two cars under my name.
