 That would be my mom...washing the laptop!

My daughter has dropped THREE cell phones in the washing up bowl - all dead

She talks with it tucked between her head and shoulder while she washes up

Then she looks up when the mailman comes etc and...splash !

She gets her brains from her mother and her incredible good looks .... no seriously, I have bought a sleeve for my lappy and then it goes inside its foam carry bag. It's like a woman - if you treat it right and use it regularly then you can get many years of excellent service before it finally starts to get hot ... no can't say that either..lets leave it at 'hot'

When marc bolan sang :

Just like a car you're pleasing to be hold

I'll call you Jaguar if I may be so bold

'Cos you're my baby, 'cos you're my love

Oh girl I'm just a jeepster for your love - oh

..of course he was English and of my generation so perhaps it doesnt translate in the US - but 'over there' people refer to quality ranges by likening it to various brands of car from 'Rolls Royce' down to Lada (a Russian car)

Hope that clarifies it

Acer is a toyota and I have owned several of each

Oh I think I get it then. There hasn't been any negative Sony Vaio reviews on here, but there's been a couple Acer negative reviews. Similar to Toyota having one of the 10 largest vehicle recalls ever and the BMW and Jaguar not being in the Top 10...

That's coz my car (Camry) is the best selling car in America - how popular is your good ole truck ?

..that means more of them crash/break down/get stolen/have flat tires than any other car

100% of under 5 year olds are unemployed

40% of Americans believe in aliens

This is where statistics can't help us and common sense takes over. Newegg would not be wall to wall with Acers year after year if they were being returned in droves

Toshiba etc are fine but the more exotic the design, the more complex they are and hard to change/add to

My pal has a Lexus and hates it as it is so loaded with electronics that at any given time, something is on the blink

We have two toyotas bought in November 2007 and nothing has gone wrong with either - not even a blown bulb. The whole world knows this is a typical toyota experience and the recall turned out to be false story where drivers pressed the gas peddle instead of the brake. Only on VJ is toyota an unreliable car.

Nothing wrong with Acer or the other major brands, but buying your way to safety doesn't always work. The machine hasnt been made that can't develop a fault (space shuttles ?)

I didn't specify your toyota, not sure why you feel it's necessary to react with a personal spin, instead of the post matter. But since I like friendly banter, I'll play along. A Lexus is a Toyota(since you said your buddy has same base platform as your car), a Lincoln is a Mercury, An Infiniti is a Nissan etc etc just without all the bells and whistles of the higher priced brand. I didn't buy my truck based on popularity or brand or any other reasons other than functionality and reliability to serve the purposes I need it(fishing, hunting, taking my 3 kids and sometimes my 3 nephews around to hunt/fish or to wrestling or baseball practices) I wasn't ready to be a 30 something minivan Dad or I would have bought one.

When it came time to purchase my first Vaio, my experience with notebooks were Dell and HP's as that's what we had at work. They IMHO were junk. I had a Sony TV, Sony Stereo, Sony playstation and Sony head unit in my car. I had had good luck with all previous Sony products and concluded they are good with electronics. Thus the reason I came to the conclusion to buy one and I have yet to be disappointed with any Sony electronic. Similar to your Toyota and Acer experience. :wow:

You like Acer and Toyota...that's swell. I don't care, they work for you and I have not blasted your decisions or judged your choice or decision making process.

For the OP and your amusement:

http://www.top10topten.com/top-10-laptop-brands.html

I was LMAO that Sony is more popular than Acer...since you asked about the popularity my good ole truck :D

To OP good luck with your decision. Some people like Acer some like Sony. Some have had bad luck with the one brand others have had great luck with the same brand. Then there's one brand all have had good luck with, but it costs a bit more.

Good idea, pick a price and see who gives you the most bang for the buck. If you want to check out a good laptop forum go to http://forum.notebookreview.com/. They are a good group there and very helpful.

All these modern computers are pretty good as are most modern cars

The reason we were talking cars was the likening of a top computer make to a 'rolls-royce' (which is an expensive car)

People seem to get the wrong idea on here - like when a guy says to his wife "your hair looks nice today" and she says "didnt it look nice yesterday then "

I had a bad experience with fujitsi/siemens (nobody on here has one), but apart from that, I would just make the point that spending more money doesnt always get a much better computer. I realise that a Lexus is built on the Toyota platform but my point was that my pal's Lexus is loaded with rear view cameras and self folding mirrors etc and is so complex and expensive to repair that it always had a current problem and he would love to have another Camry. Its a cautionary tale when applied to computers as the more stuff and the more specialised, the less flexible it is to upgrade or repair

Some people like the most complex and difficult and that is their choice. Some people buy the same again every time and that is brand loyalty. I dont, I look carefully at every brand every time

Perhaps my literacy and command of the English language is not good enough, but I sincerly dont remember criticizing your choice of computer and I still dont even know your choice, and if it is my phraseology rather than your comprehension, then I would apologize for not making that clearer
