We had our interview at the Dublin embassy on Monday, August 15th for a k1 visa. Everything seemed to go pretty smoothly, in and out in less than five minutes with the CO, but we weren't told whether our visa was approved or not. My fiance's passport was kept, though. He just checked his email and noticed that two days after the interview, the embassy emailed my fiance and asked him to call the embassy in relation to his k1 visa. We just saw the email today, Sunday, and the embassy is closed today. We are absolutely freaking out. We gave them everything and we have enough proof of our 7 year relationship. Why could they be emailing us? Has anyone ever experienced this? We are really concerned. Please, any advice would be appreciated. Could they be contacting us to tell us that our visa is denied?!

Was he given a piece of paper at the interview? Was anything said about when he;'d get his passport back? Did you supply a stamped, addressed envelope or pay a courrier fee?

There is really no way to tell why they want him to call... could be as simple as them telling him the passport with visa is on the way, or they may want additional info or documents for something. I doubt it's an outright denial, they would just have sent the passport back if that was the case.

Thanks for the reply. No, he wasn't given a piece of paper and he wasn't told when he would receive his passport. There was a man ahead of us who also went for a k1 visa and he wasn't told whether or not he was approved either, or when to expect his passport. We gave them a self addressed, stamped envelope, but we didn't have to pay a courier fee. The CO who interviewed him asked only a few questions, was making jokes, and then said, 'OK, you're all set'. When my fiance asked if the CO needed the xray, the CO replied, 'No, you will need that at the port of entry'. So it seemed like we were approved, but could anything have come up after we left that would cause a denial, or even a red flag? I know it's hard to tell what they could want, but we are really freaked out.

It is possible that something came up when a supervisor looked at the case- do you have any red flags?

I think it is more likely something minor, like they forgot to get you to sign a document, or realised your police cert had the wrong birthdate on it (like mine did). I know you are freaked out, but there is really no way to know until tomorrow, sorry.

No red flags that we are aware of. We both have clean criminal backgrounds, no prior marriages, etc. Our interview was faster than any of the other interviews before us. The CO didn't seem a bit concerned. He looked through the paperwork, and only commented on one thing. Instead of typing 08 for August on one of the forms, my fiance typed 18 by accident (clearly just a typo). The CO made a joke about it and asked, 'How many months are in a year?' and then pointed out the mistake but made no other comment about it. I know that there is no way to know until tomorrow, but it's always good to hear the experiences of others. I came here to attend the interview with him and am set to return on Wednesday. We were hoping we would be going home together.

I was wondering about that. My fiance was so nervous that he was shaking when they scanned his fingerprints, but wouldn't they have seen that the scan was bad then and there?

Hopefully its something very small, which it most likely is. My experience with the dublin embassy has troughout all the visas i had, they never said i was getting it they always took the passport and it just came back with the visa. Until last time the CO told me I was getting the visa then sent me my passport back with a denial. These were for student visas though. Please keep us updated on this as we have just started the K1 process. I hope everything works out for you guys and im sure it will.

Thanks, realizment. We weren't expecting anything like this to happen. We have been together for 7 years and we have more than enough proof of that. The interview went so smoothly, I never would have expected something like this. I am hoping for the best, but fearing the worst.

after reading other threads on VJ "ok, your all set" could easily mean approved and the email from the embassy could be about the fact that you havent paid the courier fee. ive also seen another thread about london having problems with the fingerprint machine but i would still guess it is about the courier fee. i really hope it is something so simple for you..

Hmmm, interesting. What is the courier fee? We were asked to bring 8 euro worth of stamps for the self addressed envelope that is used to send back the passport. One thing I was thinking is that we paid the $350 visa fee with a cashier's check from the bank, but we didn't sign the back of it. I contacted my bank and was given two different answers. One representative stated that the check does have to be signed while another says that it doesn't have to be signed. So now I'm thinking it may be that. Or, it may be the fingerprints. We had our interview in Dublin and I'm not sure if they have an issue with their fingerprint machine or not, but I know the fact that my fiance was shaky might have been a problem. Tomorrow seems so far away right now!

Just confirmed with my bank that the check was cashed, so it isn't an issue with the check. I was kinda hoping it was that...would have been a simple fix.
