Hi! I will be having my oath ceremony this coming Friday, 26th of August. My question is does my husband have to be there? My application is based on 3 years marriage. He is currently training guys that have to go overseas soon (Afghanistan). I am in Reno and he is in VA.

I would like fo hear feedbacks...

Thanks!

They could care less if you bring a guest or 5. There's no interviewing on OATH day - just the ceremony and you're done

Oh, as a guest, consider my most important function is to read the certificate and check for any errors, and the photo is indeed of that person getting the certificate. If not, and you leave with errors, will extend the process by another 400 bucks and six month wait.

Last time, could bring my camera, but was told no flashes, and no posing or walking up front, just left the camera in my pocket. Also should cover your mouth while yawning. Also had instructions not to yell or clap your hands. Just get that certificate, make sure its correct, and get out of there.

Thank you all for the replies! Good luck and God bless to all!

Attending the Oath ceremony is not fun. Even less fun it is for guests. Unless your souse really wants to be there with you for personal reasons, you are doing him a favor in allowing him to skip that one. Trust me.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

You make me laugh Just Bob! I talked to him about not attending but now he just booked a flight to be with me that day and fly the next day! Told him about the replies I received from the good people of visa journey though... :star:

6,000 applicants, plus 6,000 guests in the morning; another 6,000 applicants and 6,000 guests in the afternoon. About 24,000 people in a too small venue know as the L.A. Convention Center. Too small seats for the victims, no seats at all for the guests, who are jammed in with 5,999 sweaty other "guests" for hours, unable to take a breath of clean air.

Visibility near zero. P.A. system screwed up so that not even the citizens-to-be can understand a single word. I rather be castrated with a piece of glass before going through that again. Instead of the death penalty, convicts on death row should be forced to attend 10 Oath ceremonies in a row. They would never commit a crime again. We don't really need waterboarding if we adapt the Los Angeles cattle drive for immigrants!

Ours wasn't quite that bad, but still wanted to be there to make damned sure their certificates were correct. Small price to pay rather than lay out another 400 bucks with a 6-8 month wait. Both my wife and stepdaughter have excellent attributes, but careful proofreading is not one them. Get emotional, excited, jump up and down, but don't read the small fine print.

We all had comfortable seats in a classic theater in Oakland. The ceremony was amateurish and way too long, but slightly moving. We had to get there far too early to get a good parking spot in order to leave quickly, and linking back up in the lobby after the ceremony was insane. But, my wife would have a hard time getting there without me, so I did serve a useful purpose after all, even if the ceremony did not.

you would have been happy with mine, but I was frustrated, mine only took 45 minutes. It seemed that I had just sat down and they kicked us out in less than an hour. It took more than 15 min for everyone to be seated. we were 200 who were taking the oath + guests.

I took the day off because I thought it would take longer. We were supposed to be there by 8 am and it started 8:15 and before 9 it was over. Too short for me.

After 4+ yrs of immigration torture I was mostly happy (although surprised) that mine started at 2 pm and we were out by 2:45....
