It's not all down.

VIX is up 50% in one day to an eye-popping 48.

Gold is over 1700, and the 10yr is yielding 2.32%, another 24bp move.

That has to be the most headshaking, ironic part of this. The asset that was downgraded and presumably set off all the turmoil, the Treasury, is still the port in the storm, the 'flight to quality' safe haven. People are selling off everything but the kitchen sink in a mad scramble to get out of the way, and they're piling into US T bonds. God Bless America.

Since mortgages are tied to the 10yr rate, I may just do another refi. I refinanced last year and thought I was done when I locked in at 4.00% on a 15yr fixed, but the way the 10yr is going I think I can get 3.5% no-impounds, no-points, no fees. All these predictions of the downgrade bringing higher borrowing costs for everyone- it's not looking that way right now.
