Super ###### pissed off. Job = lifestyle?

Look. I'm so liberal that I'm falling off the edge of the Pacific.

My sister is super pissing me off. She's had to deal with the majority of my clingy, needy mother's needs since we moved her into a close nursing home. I agree that it's not really fair. But here we go:

she texts me that "I'm sorry that my lifestyle doesn't include a job and a husband." (But she does have a boyfriend, a trailer, and a life! quoted.)

Since when is a job considered a goddamn lifestyle?

My sister gets over $500 a month from my father (who can afford it), plus whatever unemployment is paying her useless boyfriend who doesn't want to get a job. Plus whatever her useless boyfriend is making by selling drugs.

But me having a job is a lifestyle? She's the one who goes to casinos, waterparks, concerts, etc. while we come out even with our bills and mortgage.

I always thought that liberals were fond of people that don't work or support themselves. How else can there be a needy and downtrodden dependent class for the government to provide services to?

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I agree she's out-of-line but having a job IS a lifestyle choice. Some women choose to be SAHM's. Some women choose to sleep with rich guys and live off them. You choose to work and choose to be married. She's choosing her lifestyle and it seems she thinks you judge her (or she's jealous of you and assumes you judge her and is projecting that self-loathing into what she feels is your opinion of her) for that lifestyle choice.. I know I would... at least the non-working non-positive contribution to society part. Don't really care about the married and "settled down" part.

We put my father in a nursing home and the rest of my family is over there dealing with that while I'm here. At first I felt guilt, and I still do, but I have to admit when I was at home dealing with it I was SO stressed and felt even more guilty when I realised I was happy to be getting away (back here to the US) because the pressure was totally put on me while I was there and I just needed to escape it. Your sister is probably a little bit bitter than you CAN escape it, just like I think my family probably think my choice is selfish (or at least my sister :P) but I did what I felt was right and good and what I truly think dad would tell me to do if he was his normal self.

Y'all need to get shot and recover or have a heart attack and recover or both. Stop worrying about silly sh*t. The last time I had a bad day was when I had bypass surgery. I;m done with that "bad day" sh*t.

You sound fat (edit or old). Bypass, really?

You know, Hannah.. Gary gave you a good bit of advice there. Instead of biting his head off, why not thank him?

There was one response to your post (see below) that was absolutely unhelpful. Yet, you chose the somewhat helpful response to reply to. Are you looking for a fight here? Because remember, this is P&R... if you are, you will find one.

Well, first off. I ignore peejay on principle. Have for the last few years. So damned predictable.

re. Gary -- no good advice there. I don't actually know what he's trying to say. I've had two heart attacks due to anorexia. So I think I'm technically bigger than him? Should he be thanking me?

Not with me. She can lose sleep over her sister all she wants. I am going swimming tomorrow. I discovered a new waterfall and delightful natural pool while trout fishing today, Alla and I are going skinny dipping tomorrow! (and maybe fishing too)

You discovered a new waterfall? Why, hello there Mr. Crusoe. I thought the cannibals ate you.

New for me anyway. It is possible I am not the first to discover it. I fished there for hours today and never saw anyone else so it is "safe for skinny dipping"

Oh, and I have a job, so it is OK to have fun and not worry about stupid sh*t.

And if you are not up for GSWs or bypass surgery (angioplasty is for pansies) then you could always occupy yourself with raising a child ...or four, to adulthood and pay for and or find ways to pay for, their educations.

And to confirm, I am old and fat AND happy!

To OP:

It seems you need to broker an agreement with your sister on what your shared responsibilites are in care of your mom, and then see if you can come up with a workable plan.

Obviously you have some differences with her perspective on what constitutes a lifestyle (I by the way would agree with your sentiments) but I think you guys need to put that aside in interests of your mom.

If you are not able to do that then I would assume she is not there to help and just do whatever you have to for your mom. Sorry for the drama. My dad is putting my nonna in a nursing home now and as an only child he's really bearing the brunt of it.

Best of luck
