Well it always makes sense when traveling to another country that you would have some of the local money as you may want a coffee or drink or a magazine.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month

If you don't have dollars in hand, just bring the money from your country and you can change it to dollars at the foreign exchange.

Good Luck

bring some dollars with you, you never know if you will have a delayed flight or something, it's always safer to have some dollars,It's better to have smaller dollar bills like 5's and 10's and some 20's, it will be easier for you to purchase something like food.

If your USC fiancé is not even bothering to make sure you have travel money ahead of time in dollars, then I'd be worried about what kind of situation I was headed into.

REALLY?? Really?? That's the best advice you got? Putting something like that into somebodies head? Are you the USC or the GC holder? That is ridiculous!!

What is "ridiculous" is a Filipina (or insert any other nationality here) traveling to the U.S. for the first time, presumably by herself, with only enough pesos in her pocket to cover the airport fees in Manila --

And the USC not having been present enough in the first place to ensure she'd never have to ask this question.

There is only one reasonable solution to this problem: Western Union. That should automatically happen, and if this is not the case I return to my original post. There is absolutely nothing romantic about immigrating with a penny in your pocket.

The OP states that she has enough to cover her airport fee's and others. She is asking is it necessary to have American money. My wife came her with 50 American dollars and did not spend 1 penny of it. What's ridiculous is you telling someone who obviously loves their USC to maybe rethink her decision based off the fact that she doesnt have a lot of money. What if he doesnt have a lot of money? What if every penny he had went to paying those airport fee's? You know, you may have visited your wife in the PH using a rowboat, but any international flight will feed you on the plane. Your above statements come across as "ridiculous". :bonk:

Alcheringa, as usual, is absolutely "on the money." Anyone traveling around the world needs a financial "cushion" for unexpected emergencies, ideally in the universal currency of the world and the currency of her destination country (the dollar). The OP needs to ask her fiance to wire adequate funds, or borrow from people locally and convert it to dollars.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The OP's message said nothing about love, and Alcheringa's advice is eminently sensible. Please read accurately and interpret literally.

Well that can be your little secret. It's smart to travel the world with money. But you don't have to have it to get where you are going. And you certainly don't need to put doubts in people heads about their future with someone because of money. The OP never even mentioned her USC not sending her money. I don't agree with your lucid reply after reading it accurately and literally.

seems to me the question was , do I need American money, not money, period. I am no jet setter but from what I understand any American international airport can change pesos into dollars, but then again in my case my honey will be connecting at NRT and if she wants a soda and a sandwich might wanna have some dollars (or Japanese money), thats what bought be a cpl of beers when I connected there on the way to Manila. All said and done, a hundred bucks in the pocket and a cpl or 3 thou in PHP would be a smart thing to do. Good things, everybody :-)
