My fiance' and I have submitted a K1 visa application. She is from the Phillipines and I am from the US. I have been hearing a little about age difference being an issue with approval. I am 51 and she is 31. I realize this is a 20 year spread, but she is no teenager. I would think that it may be more of an issue if she were younger, say 18-25 and I was 38-45. We are almost 60 days into our wait after NOA1.

What do you VJ'es think? Will this be an issue?

Thanks.

I think you will be fine... unfortunately its the reverse when it causes issues .... if she was 51 and you were 31 there may be an issue but the most important thing is to save everything about your relationship to prove it is a genuine relationship, chats, emails, pictures, travel tickets, receipts of gifts, cards sent ...you name it... and of cos be sure her family accepts everything ...other than that I think you will be fine

Do not be worried, everything will gonna be fine, just relax, you will not be denied, just make sure that u will be able to have all the proofs that ur relationship is genuine, gather each and every single mails, phone calls, pictures, text mesages if you print, as in everything.. And tell her that as soon as she have her interview all she needs to do is to be honest.

You are not the only one having this case, there are so many couples here same like yours and they are now together.

God bless you on your journey...

Yeap the reverse could cause issues basically if the Petitioner is a female with a wide Age Difference. In some embassy,it doesnt count as a RED FLAG except in some extremist countries.Little age difference doesnt entirely qualifies one,Providing adequate information about Ongoing relationship is the Major key and constant communication

Thanks everyone for the ind wishes.

Yes, we are well documented. We have saved everything and I will compile and send it to my girl when she needs it. I have gotten into the habit of sending a card or package every 2-3 weeks. This will be good evidence, but more importantly, the cards and gifts mean a lot to her. It's very hard being apart, and conditions there are not quite as comfy as they are here. I only wish she could come sooner.

In the Philippines, the overwhelming majority of petitioners are men who are significantly older than the female beneficiary. It's extremely common and not contrary to local social customs. It isn't a problem. Don't worry about it.

I read of a couple here on VJ where the petitioner is 42 and the beneficiary who is from the Philippines is 19. They just got their visa last week. So, no worries.:star:

I would go so far to suggest that if there was not this difference it would be odd. Very odd.

Yep. 20 years when she is over 30 is a lot differnt than 20 years when she is 19, although one VJ'r who is close to that situation has also been approved recently. As long as you have all your ducks in a row for proving bona fides you're in good shape.

As JimVaphuong said since it is not out of norm in Phillipines, you should be fine. I am 18years older than my Fiancee and I jusrt got approved today. It is not uncommon in Nigeria for the male to be significantly older than the woman, if the case were reversed, then it would have been a problem because it is out of social norm. Relax you will be just fine

; You'll be alright  !!! They might ask some more specific questions, but if you have enough proof of having met, ongoing relationship to show them your relationship is real and genuine, and she answers all her answers during the interview in all honesty, you have NOTHING to worry about.

Good luck on the rest of your journey :star:
