AOS cause arguments between couple

Waiting for AOS was nothing compared to the hell of living on different continents with the spouse for 938 unnecessary days thanks to some USCIS fsckup misinformation. That was an everyday nightmare.

AOS should be fast, max 6 months. Don't stress too much. There are usually sooner or later bigger things to stress about in the life. Stressing don't make it go any faster or smoother.

AOS has been less stressful (for us together) than the K-1 process was because now we are together every day. And, I was lucky enough that I had the free time to spend about 3 out of the 8 months waiting for the K-1 with her in Colombia so our K-1 wait could have been worse.

I think the AOS has been more stressful on me (the USC) because I'm ready to be able to start making plans, traveling, etc. like a normal person again without the risk that the government will schedule something in conflict with my plans. Plus, even with AP, I'm not inclined to travel internationally. In my view, it's good to have for emergency purposes but not frivolous travel. Even domestically, I don't want to commit to any travel plans pre-GC because there is the real risk that USCIS will schedule something during our absence. I don't think this bothers her too much since she was never much of a traveler before but I am ready to get moving!

My wife (immigrant) and I (USC) have been through K-1, AOS, and ROC. I can say with all honesty we have not felt any stress nor had any arguments/fights over the whole process. I have done all the paperwork and she has gotten the documents on her end. I'm very detail-oriented (I work in financial services so it's a normal thing for me) and I had no issues with the paperwork. I have had to push her to get documents on a more timely basis. But it was a reminder, not a argument. It's her status and all. Anyway, once the forms were sent, we didn't think about it again until we received an email or a letter from immigration. I don't know why people get so stressed over this, it's pretty straight-forward really. Yes, there are occasional fokups on their part, but I still don't think it's worth losing your sanity over.

And the people that check for "touches" daily, should really get help.

I have just got the K1 approved ater 11 months. We plan to get married in July and then commence the AOS this will be a lot better I believe as we will have eachother and I wont be trying to do it alone... Life is about change. The new life will have different things that will come however we must not let the Immigration process of any kind bring us down. We must be strong and all the paperwork will be completed in time and it will be worth it .... :)

oI totally understand your situation. I filed for AOS back in May and it's very hard to explain to my husband(US citizen) that I cannot work unitl i get my paper work. we have a son togheter, not only he has to provide for our son, but also for me. Everytime that he pay a bill or our rent which is very expensive he tells me staright up "I cannot wait for you to work, so you can help with the bills...".

My advice just hang in there, it will be over pretty soon. Don't forget to tell your husband that your are so proud of him for helping you and your son out.

Good Luck

For my AOS everything went perfectly well. I, the beneficiary fill out all the required papers - my husband checked and send it out! NO RFE !!

I feel grateful and thanks God, my husband and I had a easy, quick.. painless K1 and AOS process :) We also register our marriage at the Romanian consulate in Los Angeles and I'm now waiting to receive the new Romanian passport with the last name change and residing in the U.S

If it's given attention and did some research on that matter should be no stress! When I have questions and my husband will not know neither the answer, I say: Let me ask my friend Google, or Youtube, etc.. :)) and here on VJ are great example forms and smart people that like to help out!!

I haven't gone through the AOS yet, but my fiancee finally lands in Dallas in less than two hours. Tomorrow, we get married. I figure the rest of the process can't be too bad as long as we are together.
