My fiancée and I decided to get married immediately after my last visit, so she doesn't have her ring yet. Will this raise eyebrows at the interview? Maybe I can visit her before then.

If you guys get married before the interview then you guys are not qualify for the k-1 visa...Maybe you should hold off on the wedding until after the interview or when they issue the visa...

K-1 mailed March 10

NOA1- March 14th

NOA1-Hardcopy recieved March 18th

NOA2 August 12th

Waiting for NVC to assign case number!..

To my mind, the OP meant "After my last visit, we decided to get married (eventually), and naturally we didn't buy the engagement ring when I was visiting, because we hadn't yet decided to get married."

It's quite true that if the I-129F petition has been filed, the couple had better not marry until the beneficiary has entered the U.S. on the K-1 visa. They would then have 90 days in which to marry.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I honestly wouldn't see it being a problem. Yes it would be better, but what if the beneficiary doesn't have the money? What are they going to say, "Oh well your fiance is poor (even though the beneficiaries income isn't uneccessary), so you are denied based on that fact." I don't think that would happen. And if you just didn't have time you didn't have time. Mail one. I saw a post on here some time back where the beneficiary had actually sent money to the petitioners sister to go by a ring for him and I believe suprise her with it. I thought that was super sweet.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck!

Correct.

Thanks for the replies. And yes, we didn't have time. Also, I want a ring from Tiffany's, which is hard to get in Uzbekistan.

Also, I want a ring from Tiffany's,

How sweet! My fiance gave me my ring and was upset he couldn't afford to buy me one at Tiffany's just yet, but he said this was my engagement ring for now and a promise of a Tiffany's ring later. :D

I have to say though, my ring means so much to me I wouldn't care if it came from Tiffany's or not.

Good luck!

Yeah, I'm definitely going a bit more than two months' salary, but wow, Tiffany really is nice. Thanks so much.

I know that a lot of people are saying that having a ring doesn't matter, but I do feel that our having rings actually did play a big role in our interview. Granted, our interview was for a CR1 visa, not a K1. The last question that the consular officer that interviewed us asked was whether or not we had wedding rings. After we showed her our rings, she informed us that my wife's visa was approved. I can't say that the wedding rings were the deciding factor, but I do feel that we were about to get drilled on a number of questions before we presented our rings, because the interview was not going that well (mainly because the CO could barely speak Spanish and misunderstood what my wife said). Based on what other people have said about Ecuador at least, our interview was not the only one where having a wedding ring/engagement ring was important.

I also understand that rings are not as important in other cultures as in the US, but to be honest, I know very few people that wear wedding rings in Ecuador, so it seems a bit odd that we were asked to show our rings, based on cultural factors. One thing to keep in mind though, is that not all COs are as familiar with local culture as others, and therefore might place more emphasis on important things from American culture, like wedding rings, than others.

In reality, I can't comment on the importance of wedding rings in Uzbekistan, but I know that people from many countries will probably read this, so I think that it is important to share. With that being said, if there is a 1 percent chance that not having a ring could cause an issue, I personally would spend $15 on something temporary and then spend thousands on something nice at a later point (which is what we did).

Exactly the kind of answer I'm looking for. Thanks so much. I know some of the interview process will depend on the subjective observations of the particular CO, and I wanted to see if anyone had experienced anything like this.

Me too!

My husband has plans for a 'ring that will last'...but my 'for now' ring will always be so special to me :)

How lovely to hear you feel the same way

:)

OP-

I was asked at my K1 interview in London if I had an engagement ring...but it was in an informal, chatty way and part of a conversation...my interviewer told me that my eye's lit up when I talked about my fiance and good luck and go get married...I imagine that you will be fine...as has been said, not every engaged person has an engagement ring.

Good luck!
