Quick question. My wife (God-willing) will receive her CR-1 probably late July/Early August. We're planning on coming back to the states, moving into our new house, etc. She has a family affair in late Sept in England, and this will likely occur -before- she gets her production Green Card. I've read some horror stories of people trying to travel outside the country after POE but before getting their green card, can anyone provide some insight?

I know that technically it is legal and allowed and shouldn't be an issue, but I want to avoid any chance of her running into serious issues on return. She'd only be gone about a week or so. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks,

-Jim

hi jim brown i have simple and easy answer of your question when you recieved your online visa immigrant IV fee bill and affit daffit (AOS) of support fee bill DO NOT PAY because you have one year time to pay and clear all of visa immigration fees bill and AOS fee bill wait untill your wife family affair is not over when you and your wife attend family affair and then after september you pay all your immigrant visa fee and AOS fee BILL and after that send your all original and civil supporting doc with immigrant visa application ds-230 and i-864 aos send all doc to NVC and your case start again at the end of the hold position again

Mustafa, I don't get from the OP that they are looking to delay the case

OP - yes, she can travel. Obviously no one here can guarentee that she won't be questioned but there is nothing legally preventing her from leaving and returning to the US shortly after she arrives on an IV

Good luck

hi canadian-wife i dont think that op can take any risk as op mention in his post because there is a lot of chance that op running in to serious issue about return and i think op take maximium chance to avoid serious type of issue and i tell my own experience to op because i also late my case 80 days my i-130 approved date is oct -1 -2011 and my online IV and AOS FEES bill available to be PAID on oct - 10- 2011 and i wait 83 days because of my university final examination and when my final examination is over and then i able to pay and clear my all immigrant and AOS fee bill and then i send my all doc to NVC AND ACCORDING TO NVC this is legal for every one to pay all visa fee bill in 1 year peroid of time if in case you cannot pay fees bill in 1 year peroid of time your case will be expired and then you start your case again at the begning of time

Again, there is no risk. The I-551 stamp is travel authorized

I don't understand what risk you are talking about. Once the beneficiary arrives on a Cr-1 IV, the become a permanent resident of the US, regardless if the physical green card is in possession

What risk?!?!?

Good luck

It's perfectly possible that she will receive her "real" green card in time, but also of course perfectly possible that she won't :-) Either way, I wouldn't worry about it at all. The stamped visa in her passport is a temporary green card. She will have zero trouble exiting the US. On return she should also have zero trouble, of course the worst case scenario is that the official she meets is not very knowledgeable and so questions her a little or even sends her to secondary...but that will only be hassle and nothing more. Honestly the stamped visa is pretty obvious about what it is so I don't see why anyone should be confused in the first place.

Well, if that is the case - chance of stolen passport, family affairs, expenses, return ticket - no one should ever travel again!

hi canadian-wife as op mention in his above post both op all ready in england so in that case when both op attend his family affair there is a minimum risk of expences because op living is own home and i think that op is first priority is not family affair these type of things is secondary things and i thing every new married couple first priority is future planing every new married couple is thinking about the future planing and his or her first priority to save money as op mention in his post op have a new house and you know better there is a lot of expences to renovate new home if op expecting baby there is medical insurance expences if op have a car maintenance expences if op dont have a car so car purchase expences ext ext

This is an immigration forum. The OP didn't ask for advice about financial planning or family priorities. All that is needed to enter the USA is the I-551 stamp (endorsement) of the visa. The other considerations are personal, not immigration related.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

I returned to Canada one week after my POE for a family event and on returning to the US used my passport with the endorsed visa, as pushbrk noted, I had no issues at all.
