I'm still a Republican

I'm a conservative, but seriously thinking of leaving the Republican party. The stupidity of many conservative Republicans embarrasses me. Any reason why I should stay? And, if you're not for me staying, where should I go? The Democrat Party doesn't hold much appeal for me either.

Sorry, I meant to post this on P&R. I'll have it moved.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

This is the major flaw in our political system. I used to be a rep myself but they no longer represent my real opinions on how things should be. The Dem party is even worse IMO. I just call myself an independent and vote for whoever best matches my goals. We really need 6 or more major parties in this country.

Why does anyone imagine they have to "be something"? "Being" a Republican or Democrat means someone else tells you what to think and sometimes the justifications of the kool-aid drinkers on both sides is just painful to watch.

Nothing says you can't be pro-gun AND pro-gay marriage AND pro-legalization of marijuana AND against the federal government running our health care, BUT in favor of the state government having a single payor system. Why can't you choose your issues and opinions like a cafeteria?

That's why I keep saying this country needs a third party. One not so far left, nor so far right...but in the middle (center), and with no wing nuts like Palin, Pelosi, etc...but a party that actually gives a ####### about the legal citizens of this country.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

In my state, you can't vote in a primary unless you belong to a party. That's the only reason I haven't yet switched.

Why do you care who is in office? How does it affect your life?

My life hasn't gone up/down a smidgen since Obama was elected or since the Republicans won big in last election. Has yours? If not, then who cares.

I have no choice here, if I want to participate meaningfully, so I am a registered Democrat. But, I pick and choose my issues, and my candidates. Besides, there are few real Republicans left in California, and getting harder to find elsewhere as well. Where is General John Charles Frémont when we need him?

The problem is not that you can't vote in a primary, the problem is that they HAVE primaries. How on earth did that sh*t get started and why are we funding the parties popularity contests? Will we have primaries for the primiaries? It is ridiculous. I have not voted in a primary since...EVER!

We do not need primary elections and the states ought to tell the political paries to pound sand up their @ss and refuse to play that game. Let the parties have their conventions at their expense and choose their candidates like they used to.

My life has improved greatly since Obama was elected but he gets none of the credit. I take it all for myself. In general, the economy nad people's lives have deteriorated in the last few years but that is not acceptable to me so I fixed it myself. There IS no recession in our home.

Very few people find a party that represents their views 100%,

I vote GOP ... or I don't vote at all during that cycle.

I guess one has to ask them selves "what are the most important issues to me"? and then you gravitate toward the party that most represents them.

I find it hard to believe you would feel more comfy in the Democratic party...... though some third party might have some appeal... if you don't mind losing. (LOrd Infamouse, did I spell it correct this time?)

IF the GOP bailed on one or two issues that are important to me.. I would drop them and seek a lesser known party.

I think the loss of a registered voter to a party sends a definite signal that you don't like where they're headed, but on the other hand if you're active at all in the party then maybe it might be a good idea to show up to your next caucus to voice your concerns.

I know how you feel though. I'm a registered Dem, but I don't feel like either of the major parties represents me anymore.

I'm an independent. In TX there is no requirement to register any party affiliation. However, to vote in the primaries you can only chose a Republican or Democratic ballot to vote. No mix or match is allowed.

In the general election you can vote for anyone from either party on the ballot.

I support individual candidates with financial contributions, but the RNC and DNC can kiss my azz. Neither gets a red cent out of me.
