Howdy,

since I'm feeling pretty good about our NOA 2 happening pretty soon, I am scrounging up all the stuff my fiance will need for the P3.

I was looking at my company's intranet, and the only way they offer employment verification is via an online service, http://www.theworknumber.com. There is no way to get a paper letter.

Do we have to get a letter on paper?

Can you just go to your supervisor/boss and ask them to write a letter for you on company letter head? It just needs to state your position, how long you have been there and how much you make yearly (which you can get from your W2)

Use recent pay stubs instead?

Exactly. Recent pay stubs that show rate of pay and year to date earnings are, IMO, more effective evidence than employer letters anyway.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

Write the letter to your boss and have them print it on company letter head and have him/her sign it. Very simple.

It might be simple but clearly, it would be violating company policy. Only the employer and violator would care about that though.

pushbrk, that is music to my ear :) The last thing I need is to go beg HR for a letter. In today's economy, an employer's letter is no guarantee that I'll have a job tomorrow, next week or next month. So I agree with you that recent pay stubs are as good or better, although they don't guarantee anything either.

When the time comes, I'll give my fiancee my IRS tax transcripts, W-2's and pay stubs.

Personally, in my opinion, a third party verifiable report is much more relevant than a letter stating "Bob currently is an active employee at ABC company with income XX,XXX. - Signed John"

Many companies including mine utilize the work number. The report ends up being generated on company letterhead and is authorized and approved via electronic signature.

When I follow my work's "Immigration Verification" this is what I get. This along with the pay stubs and tax transcripts should do the trick. It might not be needed but I'm taking it with me just the same. It takes less than a minute to generate the report.

He's talking about "The Work Number" - it's an online employment/income verification website that employers or employees can login to and view/print their status. I've worked for a few companies that use it - it's ok, nothing amazing. Check with your work's HR department to see if they use it. If they do, you can print out a form (usually like 5-10 pages) showing your employment status (full-time/part-time/temp) and a list of your paystubs showing income.

Just mention to your HR that you need employer statement regarding employee work verification for "Immigration Purposes". If you don't mention Immigration purpose, HR might have different interpretation of that request (ie is he/she needing this employee work verification because he/she is going to another company? If so, your might get a run around on your request.

Where I work, I always mention "Immigration Purpose", when I needed it for Affidavit of Support. I don't want anyone thinking anything else why I need the "employee work verification" letter.

I havent found any links for immigration verification on my company intranet. I'll call our HR departments 800 number Monday.

For what it's worth, I just had my interview a few weeks ago, and they wanted my fiance's 2010 tax returns & W2s (I offered them this when they asked for 2009 tax transcripts, and they gladly took it but informed me they couldn't demand it, since taxes aren't due until April 15th), plus a letter from his employer. I also had pay stubs, but they only wanted the letter and tax returns & W2. Just a heads up.

That was in Canada though, so it's probably quite different to China.

In any event, good luck to you. :)
