I believe him, too. I just find it odd that there are classes like that. And yeah the price, ri-dic-u-lous.

It's quite common. What's striking (to me) is the short length of the class and the price tag.

I used to work for a Global Manufacturer of Building Products. I worked in a couple of their factories first in various leadership roles, then I moved to their corporate offices in their IT department where I worked for 10 years. I was shocked at the difference in culture at the plants and at the WHQ. At the HQ, I had to attend perpetual 'diversity' meetings of every manner...it was never ending. It became so perpetual that I thought that the company's core competency had become 'Human Resources'...not manufacturing...it was ridiculous...dozens of people shot up through the ranks as 'diversity professionals'...

That company also became 'safety' freaks! As soon as our daily diversity meetings were over, we'd have to go to 'safety awareness' meetings where we would discuss how to be safe. Remember now, we were working in the corporate environment where the highest risk of danger was having your coffee too hot...so it was lame...meanwhile in the factories people were losing limbs...

Corporate offices can tend to lose all types of focus...so when I see the stuff AJ is talking about...I complete ignore it as 'noize'...

It's not unusual. There are lots of workshops for women and they all tend to have language like that. I also find the new phrase I hear a lot "diverse woman" or "diverse employee" very strange. How one applies the word diverse to an individual is beyond me. Groups are diverse, not individuals.

Its not intended to be a 'class for learning/betterment of the employee's'...its intended to be a 'CYA Class' for managers so they can say they delivered this training when someone sues/files complaints. Since its a CYA class, it becomes inelastic in its demand...a 'must have' for employers...hence, they'll pay for it now, so they won't have to pay suits later.

You mean it's not unusual at your workplace or in the corporate world? I guess I can understand if someone is new to the country and they don't know how american businesses run in regards to bosses/managers, but the fact that it's about "diverse women" dealing with white male managers...uhhh. I'm just not understanding this. lol.

Well, would my son be "diverse" since he is half Indian and half a lot of other things? haha.

It has been quite a few years but I see that corporate is still pretty much the same. The emphasis and classes have changed only to a degree.

AJ. I am not seeing anything drastic for you and was not making fun earlier.

Yeah, relax - I do find this funny, so feel free to laugh. Even if this ends in a RIF I will still say this was pretty darn funny.

A commendable 'tude, si man.

Question, however: Doesn't one first have to lax before one can re-lax? And, if one is retired, would one then be an ex-lax? (Are these crappy questions to ask, huh man?)
