Just thought yinz guys might like to hear my experiences calling USCIS:

11:16 called and looped through automated system for a bit.

11:26 pressed 6 to speak to a person, got a CSR. She was polite, told me about July 24th, said it might take 30 to 50 days. I said I had heard about other people getting theirs and wanted to talk to an ISO for a more detailed status. She said she COULDN'T transfer to an officer, just another CSR. I questioned that a bit and then said fine, thinking I'll just ask the next CSR.

Put on hold at 11:38, not sure how long this lasted, but a good few minutes.

Got an officer! Yay! She was really nice and even made some jokes about her computer being so slow. She started putting in a service request and said it wouldn't let her because of July 24th. Then she said "Let's see if we can do this another way..." and some way or another she put one in! She gave me a confirmation number, told me I should receive a letter of some sort by February 15th and that I should call if I don't, and congratulated me (I suppose for my engagement, but maybe also for my soon-to-arrive NOA2???). Call ended almost right at noon.

I'm feeling a bit better about it all. Hopefully they follow through on it!! :D

NOA1 Received: August 26, 2010

Touches: The October 3rd Touch of Death :)

And did you get what

you wanted from this life, even so?

I did.

And what did you want?

beloved on the earth.

Ok... What is an ISO. Walk me through this please on exactly what I should say and how I should act toward them... No response from my congressman or senator. Called USCIS last Monday, nothing yet. This is causing so much stress in my life. Please help me... I am two seconds away from just chewing their asses out. Should I just be totally horrible with them? Or kill them with kindness?

This is causing so much stress in my life. Please help me... I am two seconds away from just chewing their asses out. Should I just be totally horrible with them? Or kill them with kindness?

An ISO is an Immigration Services Officer. Here is what happened to me:

I called USCIS customer service and got a woman operator. She told me the same, scripted lines as usual. I started to "get emotional" and she seemed more responsive to my plight than other operators I had talked to before (hello, Tim). She still would not easily transfer me though. I was very adamant that I be transferred to a Tier 2 and was basically like, I'm not hanging up until you do (I didn't say that but I made it clear that was my goal - not in a rude way but very firm). She finally agreed to transfer me to a tier-2 ISO.

I got connected to Officer Morales, but we got disconnected before he could go much other than take my information (I'll assume it was an accident and he didn't hang up on me on purpose - ha). I then had to call back the general 1-800 number and go through the WHOLE automated system again to get back to an operator. As soon as I got one, I said "I was just on the phone with a tier-2 officer and got disconnected, please transfer me back." She didn't give any pushback and transferred me right away.

This time, I got a female ISO. She had a thick accent, but was VERY friendly right away (almost to the point she seemed a little airheaded). I told her that Officer Morales was just about to put in a service request for me when we got disconnected (stretching the truth only a little!) and would she continue the process. She was very accomodating and said sure. She started to put in the request under "outside normal processing time", but then she told me it wasn't letting her put it through because they were only processing Aug 21 petitions (still?) and I had to wait. I was almost crushed. I, again, was very polite but firm and said "I need you to help me find another way to make this happen." So then right away she was like "Oh, well, I can just put it in as a request to process ASAP!" So I said, "great!" She was kind of talking to herself why she typed in the request "Please process and send to NVC ASAP..." and then told me she had submitted it. I think there must be different options to click on when submitting the request, and so if the outside of normal processing time option doesn't let them navigate through the request, ask them which one will and have them put it through.

I was sooo happy. I don't know if it will do anything though. She may have just been trying to get me off the phone, for all I know, and placating me by telling me she was doing something. She didn't give me any detail thereafter, didn't say I should expect to hear something within 30 days or anything. She seemed eager to get off the phone and I didn't want to push my luck so I just asked for a confirmation to see if it had really gone through and she gave me one, soooo..time will tell if something comes through or if the service request worked or not...

I guess just try that, be polite but ADAMANT that you are not getting off the phone until they do something for you! Good luck!

Pretty much the same thing happened to me. I wasn't able to put in a service request when I said I was "outside normal processing times," but when I pushed for them to please help me in some other way, the officer offered to process it for a similar but slightly-differently-worded reason. (I think it was "I feel my case is taking too long" or something to that effect - it was actually the officer's words, but I agreed.) Also, I put in the request with one of the tier 1 people, not even a tier 2 person. My case was then assigned to an adjudicator THAT DAY (as my senator's office informed me) so I was super happy...but that was over a month ago. Still nothing. But it is worth a try.

Good morning VJers! So today I called again. I was told the same thing by the CSR... That they are 44 days behind. She told me there was nothing she could do. I requested to speak to an ISO. The ISO was very pleasent and basically told me the same thing. I asked if there was ANYTHING that we could do, and she was nice enough to place a request for an update on my case. To me, this is a lot better than just being told to wait another 44 days, granted that I still may. I feel better today, as I feel that I made a little bit of progress. One baby step is better than to remain crawling. Here is hoping to quick approvals for all of us over the 150 day mark! Good luck!
