Getting Ready To File For My K-1 Petition

Hello,

I'm very new here if you haven't noticed...I just registered today, though I've actually visited this site many times recently. I've found a lot of useful information on here. I am a US citizen petitioning for my Swedish Fiancée C: <3

I'm in the process of filing all the needed forms ect. and was wondering if I need to send in my actual passport with the papers or simply a copy of my passport? Same goes for my birth certificate. If any of you have any tips or outlines on the needed things to send in with my petition, that would be wonderful.

Except for the forms don't send any originals to the USCIS, so just a copy of all the pages in your passport, or a copy of you BC.

If you were born in USA you can send a copy of your birth certificate (front & back). You may also send copy of your valid, unexpired U.S. passport issued with a validity period of at least five years. You need to copy all pages of your passport.

The OP does not need to send both. One or the other will suffice.

I just sent my I-129F not long ago and I didn't send copies of all pages in my passport. I was under the impression that if you were using your passport instead of your birth certificate to prove citizenship then you would copy all pages. I was only using mine to show passport stamps as proof of meeting and thought you only send your pic and the stamped page.

12-27-2010: I-129F arrived at USCIS sent packet on 12/23

Just have to ask, since it's news to me.

Where did you get the info of " with a validity period of atleast five years" for the passport?

OP, send EITHER copies of the front and back of your BC, OR, copies of all the pages of your passport.

That's all.

If your spouse has any Stockholm specific Q's (even though we are in different visa-types, it's all pretty much the same over there) it's ok for you guys to PM me.

Also, if you are able to, what I did is give my original birth certificate to my fiance when he left from visiting me last time..This way he has it incase they want to see it during his interview. I kept my passport incase I go there when he has the interview (but probably won't). Of course if you think you need to keep this for work related things or anything, don't give your fiance the original.

It's in the I-129F instructions. It means that the initial validity period of the passport must be at least five years. It doesn't mean the passport needs to have at least five years of remaining validity on it. The reason for this requirement is that it's possible to get a limited validity (i.e., temporary) passport for emergency travel from a US consulate abroad. For example, if your passport were lost or stolen you could get a temporary passport allowing you to return to the US. A temporary passport can only be used for short term travel - it can't be used as proof of citizenship.

Thank you for answering.

I was just wondering where and how it came about. Just looking to learn, that's why I asked.
