EAD in production!

Just received an email from USCIS. My EAD is currently in production (even tho I received an RFE for I-693)!

Now, can I work right now, or should I wait for the actual card?

Also, am I right in thinking that I can use the EAD for SSN and driver's license?

You can always interview for jobs, some employers may hire contingent on seeing the EAD card.

Yes you can use EAD to apply for SSN, and most states will accept the EAD as evidence of legal presence so will issue a DL if you have a Canadian DL, or issue a learner's permit if you don't have a DL

Thank you for moving this thread. Didn't think about posting it where it should have been. :bonk:

Man, that was quick! Congratulations, Kittyfang!

Still in the "f$%#, no money to file" stage here.

It WAS quick! I was surprised since I have an RFE.

I hope you get yours very soon (the card I mean... Not an RFE)! :)

The I-693 isn't tied to your I-765. Later, you will either receive the RFE when they resume working on your I-485.

I read the other thread of yours regarding the RFE - it must be a rather small hiccup not really worth warranting putting your other paperwork processing on hold. :)

I hope so as well (for the card) but I have to send in stuff first. For that, I need money. :\

Already have the RFE. Working on answering it and providing what's needed. It must have been a missing signature.

The whole process can make anyone go insane... Specially when money is involved. I hope good things come your way soon. :)

Hey Katgrl!

We have similar timelines! I myself also have a Biometrics appointment for December 28, '10. However, I haven't sent in my I-693 & I-864 as yet. When I do the Bio., will they still do an EAD card production for me?

Well, at first, I was under the impressing that once you get an RFE, the WHOLE thing is on hold. But, since receiving that email, I've been told that EAD for is separate from I-693(i.e. it has nothing to do with it).

Hopefully, they will send you your EAD as well! :)

Hi!

I got my biometrics done Dec 6th but i didn't receive any email or letter about my EAD. I was wondering if this is normal? I just noticed that Kittyfang got an email only 3 days after the appointment. I already got a letter for the interview (Jan 18th) but when i checked the status on uscis.gov is still on "aceptance" (I-485) and I-130,765,131 are still on initial review (same status from the beginning).

Well I hope somebody can tell me more about the EAD notice and how long it takes to get it normally? Thank you!

You are fine. You might get your card or you might not, before the interview. However, as you have your interview coming up and if you get approved you won't need the EAD anymore.

I wonder how they work on I-765 forms. So people get approved in 30 days some others in 100 days.

Do they pick a file in a logical manner (as per date of NOA...) or is it just luck?? Sometimes we wonder ;)

Sorry I completely misread your question! :) I was thinking you asked if you could apply for your SSN with your email. Good luck finding a job, if you don't already have one lined up!

Hi princesslovalova! I was surprised we got our biometrics appt so quickly as other November filers are still waiting. Hope our EAD comes soon. The OP has an RFE for her I-693, but she sent hers in. I'm not sure if you will get the EAD before you send in the missing forms or not. But hopefully you will.

I think it has more to do with the state it's being adjudicated in...at least that's the impression I've got from other posts in here. But I know, it would make more sense to do everything in the same way and same time frame. :)
