I'm right there with you, Jim. My NOA1 date was Dec. 11, but I sent in I130 Nov. 29th and I still can't see my Receipt Number.

Hi all! Just thought I'd jump in this thread too. I filed in November, but my Priority Date is Dec 3rd so I guess technically I belong here! I'm still waiting for any news at all, and would very much like my case # to work on the USCIS site, but right now I've got nothing except the wait!

Jim Brown - hi and welcome. My # started working out of nowhere but I still can't figure out how to see "touches". No updates in my email box, either. Seems I can't link my email address to our case on USCIS. Oh well. All we can do is wait anyway. Hope it'll go easy on us now. To me the first month was the worst. Now it seemed to pick up.

KLS2010 - I feel you. We have a 10-year difference (this year i'll be 31 and hubby 41) and I also don't know how THEY will react.

croa01 - I noticed the other affidavit of support on my consulate's website as well. I'm not quite positive but I think someone said only I864 is needed, though....

And to everyone else: My husband is coming a week from now! I am beyond excited! We'll be getting married in church on March 5th, this time with a big reception to follow (our November civil wedding was very modest, no one there except us and his mom).

I am sooo happy right now. My dream is finally coming true. But the funny thing is, I am more excited about seeing him and being with him for that week and a half than about this whole wedding ordeal

It's over a 13-year age difference for us. The embassy may ask about it during the visa interview (they often ask about lots of stuff) but in the end it is no big deal - the important question for them is whether or not you are LEGALLY married. If the law where you married says it's OK to marry with an age difference, then it's OK to have an age difference. If the law where you married says it's OK to marry your half-sibling (and this is legal in Sweden), then it's OK to marry your half-sibling.

Generally, USCIS can't impose social biases unless it has a legal basis for doing so - it has that, for example, with people who marry prostitutes. A federal law prohibits the prostitute from immigrating even as the spouse of a US citizen. That law is almost certainly unconstitutional - prostitution is legal in Nevada - but as yet nobody has taken the time and effort to seriously challenge this law in federal court.

We were married in Texas so no problems with it being a legal marriage. I've just heard that big age differences are considered a fraud indicator, so I am a little worried. I guess though I shouldn't - ours is a genuine marriage. Trust me - I wouldn't have travelled for over 24 hours each way between Australia and Texas five times in the last 2 years if my husband didn't mean everything to me!

There is a leaked USCIS document on the Internet, a checklist for use during visa interviews, which lists all kinds of things as being POSSIBLE fraud indicators. They are so broad and so general that pretty much every couple is going to violate at least one of them. If you violate a checklist item, they will ask you questions about the topic at the visa interview. In general, every application is going to be scrutinized for fraud anyway, so even in the very unlikely event that you escaped all of the POSSIBLE fraud indicators on their checklist, they would still find some way to harass you. However, as a loyal VJer you now have an advantage over USCIS - you already know (in part) what it is they are going to harass you about, and thus you can prepare your perfect response well in advance of the visa interview.

*sigh* The days are going by TOO SLOW!! March 4th come quicker! I can't wait to be in Colombia again!! How DO you see if your case has been touched? I went and checked my case status and it seems like it is going to say that same thing until it goes into decision mode lol

Will be leaving to visit my hubby in less then three weeks and I am so excited. I miss him so very much. God has allowed us the opportunity to spend two weeks with one another (16 days and 15 nights to be exact) and we will enjoy every minute. I pray that us seeing one another will lesson this anxiety I tend to feel with this long waiting process. Our anniversary is in October and I am praying and praying that he will be here by then. If not I guess I will have to take that long flight back to Nigeria because we just have to spend our first wedding anniversary together. Please pray for my safe arrival and for our time spent together.

You're right. I guess it's pretty much their job to assume that EVERYONE is being fraudulent - it's on us then to prove otherwise.

I'm only new to VJ but I've already gotten some great insight into what to expect. If we are prepared, stay clam and be honest we shouldn't have any problems.

News organizations are reporting on the looming possibility of a government shutdown. If that happens, visa application processing will be frozen solid. :angry:

Yeah, I read that too. They'll decide on March 4th. But I can't imagine that a dispute over the government budget would affect USCIS, since the are funded through the big fees we pay?! I mean, isn't that the reason why we pay those huge fees?! So we don't take money from the US taxpayers and fund ourselves??????
